Default winter oil

Well its come time to store the JRSC lude for the winter and its due for a oil change. I have an oil cooler and was talking to friends who recomend changing the oil before storeing it. I do turn it on in the garage about once a week in the winter just to let it warm up. The car has 8000 miles and i wanted to switch to a synthetic brand. Whats a good sythentic brand (i was thinking royal purple) and is it a good idea to switch it now? I was wondering because its only going to sit and will this effect the seals or anything. Any help is appreciated. Also which filter do you recomend using. What do other JRSC luders use?
