Finally hit a dynojet... balancer shaft test
I will and put up the video later today. But I hit a dynojet to put down a baseline before I build my header and a bunch of other stuff.
I hit 214whp and 167wtq SAE on the dynojet
pretty happy about it considering I was on a dynapack before. I removed the balancer shaft belt and gained 3hp and 2tq pretty much all the way through VTEC.
I can feel the vibration on the foot now, but it seems the balancer shaft removal affects acceleration the most. It's not just the power gain it's mostly the freeing up of the rotating assembly. I don't know if I will leave it off. but it feels pretty good for now.
Graph and video to come.

thats good to know, i took mine off a while ago, have the same feelings, but i got lazy and it hasnt bugged me enough to put it back on.
by the way i cant wait to see the new numbers.

Nice numbers man
i don't think it would really be worth it to me to take
the belt off, but hey every horse counts
so is your new dyno gonna be w/an smsp header

ummm your getting the vib in the pedal too.....mabye it was just me but it felt like my motor was going to explode after 6500
i have a very badly chiped crank pullye too though mabye that was why
thanks for the test joel ....can you email me some of those pics for the header (if you have them )

</TD></TR></TABLE>did you get a chance to try out the cai you making?
Good to finally get a back-to-back on the balance shaft issue. Looking forward to seeing the graph . . . .
Also, somewhat surprising that you made roughly the same power on a dynojet as you did on the dynapack. I forget - how long a pull did you use on the dynapack?

my motor feels like it wants to keep going even though the power is falling off. i need cams!

I have dropped Power steering since then w/ an f20b crnak pulley...probably 3 across the board from that.

no power steering made a huge difference...... to mine...
I allready have the shafts removed and permanatly out.
dyno sheets and video should be interesting to see/hear.. i wana know if my motor sounds like yours

Acceleration was a big difference after removing them, and also for some odd reason,i feel less vibration from my built motor now that from what i had before which was a stock block type s piston rebuild.

when i pulled of ps belt on the dyno i picked up 6.8 whp nearly accross the board.
also milage on the motor will cause the numbers to rise a little.
thank you very much for doing the dyno for us. answers a lot of questions and speculation. it makes me feel betyter about the little gains because i wont take mine off. just a personal preference

HA, a 3hp leak huh?
anyway, I always kinda figured the removal wouldn't work wonders on hp like everyone said....
again, glad to see you back lone luder

Run 1 vs. 4 Baseline vs. No Balance Shaft Belt

Pretty obvious gains all around.
Some notes:
1) This was done with no fans, we didn't have time to set all them up, hurts numbers somewhat
2) With the belts off there is okay hp/tq gain, but mostly it's felt in acceleration. It's crazy how much faster the car accelerates, taking the drag right off the rotating assembly
3) My cams need to be set to 4500 look at the cam line, it's crazy how much midrange I will be able to pick up with more tuning.
I actually set VTEC to 4800 and made a rudinentary fuel adjustment...as you can see below there is a lot of power to be gained there...but I need to spend a bunch of time messing with the fuel to get it right...so I just left it at 5000 for now.

Thanks very much for taking the time to do this.
People have been talking about the balancer for ages, but this is the first time I've seen a dyno that specifically measures just that.
