How to protect an ITR?
Ok so when (hopefully soon) I get my Type R, I have no access to a garage. What can I do to keep my car from getting stolen? It won't be drove much, me being in college, it will be at home. I know an alarm, and a really good car cover to keep over it. Any suggestions? An recommendations on alarm type? When I park it, should I just take the battery out? Any info would help.

Those are all great ideas Josh, however any thing you can think of they already have thought of, at least the good ones
. Get yourself a wireless alarm equipped with a wireless immobilizer and fuel cut. Justkeep adding layers of defense that will slow them down if they ever do find your car. Just keep it in your or your parents site @ all times and keep it hidden..

When installing alarm, most places will only do starter kill, so make sure you redo it so it's cuts fuel instead. Car can be bump started if it's only starter kill. I would get an aftermarket steering wheel, w/ a removeable hub. You can also make your own fuel or ignition cut switch and hide it. My friend used to disconnect his ECU and take it w/ him. Or the club that locks out your pedal is also good. But if they're gonna tow it, there's nothing you can do anyway.
Park it in your driveway and block it in with another car. Make it as difficult and time consuming as possible to steal your car. Those frickin' thieves are determined
Ok guys, this is great, exactly what I was looking for. Where the car will be parked in on a hill, like at the top of the driveway, only one way down, so it would be near impossible to tow. At night, when everyone is home, there will be at least 1 if not 2 cars behind it. I like the ECU idea. The fuel cut sounds good too. No new steering wheel though, gottaq stay stock incase of SCCA. Whats a blackjax? Any good alarm name su can give me, like brands and stuff? Imma do a search for all this stuff now. Thanks guys.

I will be blunt.
If you don't have a garage, then it's just a matter of time. Of course, it has a lot to do with how vulnerable Honda's are in the area. But, if the area has been known to have Honda theft rings, then you can kiss it goodbye. Remember to never let your guard down. One time you don't arm the alarm, or one time you don't take precaution is all it takes to loose the car.

Blackjax is a option on most Clifford alarms. A code has to be entered into a 2 button key pad in the car every time a door opens or closes. If too much time passes with out a code the car shuts off the alarm souynds and cant be started again without the code

OK, so can anyone give me some good setups they are running, or know of other people running, like a clifford with blackjax and a fuel cut switch, and maybe a kill switch to diable the ECU? What about the pedal club thing? Thanks
here's what i recomend, its gonna atleast cost you $1200
Clifford Matrix RS 3.5
-shock sensors
-door/trunk/hood sensors
-REMOTE START!
-Also, add the option of a tilt sensor, just incase someone tries to tow it
Blackjax (i have this, so i'm talking from experience. The new blackjax (blackjax 4) is like a seperate alarm, it will not connect to the Clifford Matrix brain. So technically, you have two alarms. Everytime you want to turn on your car, you must enter some type of pattern in a 2-digit pad.
Also, i recomend you cut your hood release cable and get hood locks. Most thieves just pop your hood and cut the alarm line that connects to the battery. Also, blackjax can get annoying after a while (entering code everytime a door is opened), but for the paranoid honda ownder, its worth it.
Its sad how we have to do all this for a honda.

No the clifford matrix is wireless like all clifford brand alarms, thats why they are more effective than conventional alarms . Cut the wires to the battery and the wire-less siren still sounds, it runs off a battery that is only used in the event the cars main power source (the battery) is disengaged.
Everything Swatdos listed above can be had for under $1,000
I do agree with the hood cable disconnecting though. Run it in a different spot, like I said before the longer it takes for them to get through your defenses the longer they have to get caught
Don't make uneducated statements!

Right now, I live in a high crime area in nyc.. my car is parked outside.. here is what i do.
Clifford with starter and ignition cut
the siren is buried under my catch can- can't cut wires to it
autolok (steering wheel lock from the UK- never heard of anyone defeating it in a reasonable amount of time)
autolock on clutch
medeco hood lock (metal sheeth and has a red led)
broken hood release (need pliers to pull hood but there's a hoodlock)
park nose of car against garage (makes it very difficult to pop the hood from the front)
VIN etched windows (free from police)
full coverage
basically it will take some time to defeat the alarm if they can't get under the hood.
they can tow but the alarm will be blaring. as soon as the alarm is tripped, my friend living on the floor above me and i know.
if they steal it good, i want a new car anyway

Sorry to say this...Type R + No garage + Owner at school = Insurance money & new car. Thieves are scumbags, they will do anything to take your car.

better check your insurance policy on how they value your car and the money you get for it...it'll be less than you expected GUARANTEED.
it happened to me when my car was stolen after 6mo. of owning it. The insurance valued it at the cost of 20% off the lot cost not the brand new cost replacement. Read the fine print. There are clauses on the valuation of your car in your policy.
So you not only get screwed by the thieves but also the insurance company.
it's gotten to point of being so bad that in some states like NJ, some of the major insurance companies have left or charge you an outrageous annual rate (enough for you to have a nice downpayment on a new car after 3 yr of paying for insurance!!!).
btw my car was found on blocks with the entire interior, tranny, engine, everything stripped...there was only the shell and frame..in an abandoned industrial park in East Toronto.
gee, I wonder which civic owner benefited from that?

This is ridiculous, I can't believe people are so damn petty and f*ckin spineless. SO not only do I pay 17k for a ITR, I then put another 2 grand into it just to TRY and keep it, or pay damn 10G to build a garage, only if the land is available. We are living in a sad, sad world. I like the set ups so far. I want to do an ecu disconnect switch, and there are relays on the cliffords to cut power to the fuel pump. This all sounds good. Im goin to make the ITR a fortress.....

i know.. something i expect. my point was that i'm so fed up with worrying about thieves.
my previous car was a 99 si. it was barely 4 months old.. stolen in front of my parents house in long island, stripped totally clean, front end and all. found 3 hours later that same night on the bronx river parkway. luckily in that case, the insurance company actually gave me more than i paid for it.
i will be impressed if they find a way to steal my car

I wouldn't buy an R without a garage. That's just my personal opinion. Even if they can't steal it, it doesn't mean that they can't take everything while it's in your driveway. Many people have gotten full interiors, wheels, and other things taken while they were sleeping inside.
right but cracker doesn't have a garage so maybe he can use some of my deterrents.
if they can't defeat the alarm right away they probably won't sit there and unbolt stuff if it's blaring. if you can make their life hell to get under the hood then they will probably move on..
thieves around here have *****. i've heard of engines being stolen out of cars on the spot. in lit driveways and high traffic areas too
