OK guys I know I have the trial member status but I have been reading these boards for years so don't blow me off as a N00b. Recently I have become very interested in these motors I see with all the wires hidden around the frame and behind the block so on and so fourth. I have also been searching like crazy to find pictures and or How-To to do this to my own engine bay.

To the point, I would like to see close up and detailed motor shots if possible of these kinds of engine bays. There are a few i have seen around, one was a purple color civic that was INCREDIBLY CLEAN that a fellow member had done on this board, also a few different posts by a member named RYANAUTREY (sp?). These are just the ones I know of. If anyone has any others I would like to see them. And if you have close-ups of maybe where the wires are actually hidden that would be sweet.

Now the TECH part. In all the threads I have read people ask how to do it and everyone just replies put it under the frame rails. Ok well HOW do you put it under there? what do you use to secure it? how do you make sure its not going to hit moving and/or extremly hot parts. I also read that you make the wires longer.. HOW? what kind of wire do you use to lenghten them? do u just twist it back together after you cut it or do you solder it all back up? Also do u re-wrap in electric tape or should I find some of that heat up shrink wrap stuff? Is there any wires I should be extra cautious about moving that may damage parts if i am too rough with them (i.e. sensors)????

Sorry for the drawn out explanation just looking for real hard facts on how to do this because I know there is a lot of interest and I'm trying to get it all out in this thread.

AND please no "LOOK I just cleaned my engine bay pics" I have seen them all. I JUST WANT BAYS WITH VERY HIDDEN WIRES AND CLOSEUPS OF HIDDEN WIRES IF POSSIBLE

I'd like to know how to do the same. I heard of one person even running them through the fenders. My bay already looks empty with no a/c & power steering, but want to get rid of all those wires also.

well, when I redid my engine harness I soldered all connections and used plenty of electrical tape & wire loom, when I removed the evap system and the 2ndary butterflies & knock sensor, I just removed all the wires back to the ecu. I used the original wire-harness brackets [just sprayed them w/ some high-temp flat black I had laying around] and used the oe-style zip ties that have the part that clips into some brackets [hard to describe, the zipties that have that part that you need pliers to get out of the bracket].

Other things that keeps the engine bays looking clean is attention to detail, minor stuff, like hoses, clamps, rusted bolts, etc... I know it doesn't really have to do w/ wiring, but it can apply ['sides, u mentioned clean engine bays].

Basically, when I removed a component I tried to remove as much as possible, while maintaing an oe look to it. I'd post up pics but I don't have a digi-cam.

All the black there is excessive. Rainmanek had the best engine bay.

Tips are all fine and dandy but what HOW did he do it we kinda need pics of what he was doing in the process did he need to lengthen any wires? that would help out alot i think this should be a new writeup for someone to do.

Jk, probably you will have to lenthen/shorten the wires, look for anyplaces that you can "tuck" the wiring into: e.i..Frame rails etc....

First one that makes a tutorial gets a cookie!!!

 

imo it looks really empty. Seems like there should be a "bit" more to the engine bay. You know... that way it looks more complicated than it actually is.
However, that is one CLEAN engine bay. I personally love the lived in look.

Wiring
*relocated wiring harness under frame on driver & pass side
*new heat shielding and/or wrapping of all exposed wires
*moved all headlight/signal wiring from on top of frame, to under wheel well. Feeding the wires up through holes already drilled by factory
*removed aftermarket 8mm red spark plug wires in favor of stock black wires
*relocated vtec wiring under starter and out of sight
*removed all stock ground wires in favor of new, heavier gauge wires with nice connectors
*relocated fuel injector wires from on top of fuel rail, to underneath rail, through runners, and underneath manifold
Hoses
*relocated brake booster hose underneath brake booster and back behind intake manifold
*relocated fuel pressure regulator hose down and partially out of sight
*relocated radiator catch can hose when can was relocated
Parts moved/switched
*Itr radiator removed in favor of smaller, stock civic radiator
*radiator catch can relocated from passenger side of radiator, to mounted in front of radiator and out of sight
*removed STR oil cap in favor of stock black cap
*black brake booster and clutch fill socks added
*ALL power steering and ac components, including wiring, hoses, and brackets have been removed
Painting -the following was all stripped and painted black
*valve cover stripped, texturized, and painted black
*fual rail
*fuel pressure regulator
*cap at end of fuel rail
*driver side motor mount
*exaust heat shield
*radiator
*radiator cap
*brake booster
*clutch fill bracket
*vtec solenoid
*valve cover nuts, bolts, washers, and grommets
*Battery
*Hood latch mechanism

But also.. I know those wires dont all strect that far because I tried and I couldn't move much without having to extended the length. How did you make them longer so you could hide them under the fenders and frame rails?

also one other question I removed my crusise control a while back but there is a vacuum hose that attaches to the back of the intake manifold from a black cylinder thing near the firewall. Is there caps you can buy at Discount Auto parts or some auto parts store to cover these, and I doubt it will but does it do anything to the car?

Last one, On the intake tube there is a sensor that plugs into when the crankcase vent tube is.. where can I put this and does it matter if its not plugged into anything?!?

Oh Yea.. does anyone have any pics of the purple civic... thought I had them but dont.. the motor literally has NO WIRES SHOWING.. its sick and I want to get them back to have something to reference from!!!
