Removing Driveshaft from intermediate Shaft
ok right now im in the process of replacing my alternator. I got everything done except one thing. Seperating the driveshaft from the intermediate shaft. That shiet is stuck and i cant pry it out. i used a large screwdriver and got it bout 1/4 inch out and it wont come out anymore. ive been working on this project for 5 days already and still stuck. Someone please help me and gimme some advice on taking it out.
Getting that shaft out is a bit of a pain. There's a circular ring on the end of the intermediate shaft's splined end, which fits into a groove inside the driveshaft to keep it from sliding out too easily. Prying with a screwdriver is what the service manual recommends. If you can pry it out very much with that, have someone else pull on the end of the driveshaft while you pry, to keep it from sliding back in. Once you get the ring out of the groove, it'll slide out.
Small sledgehammer and knock the inboard joint out of the int. shaft. The manual says to use a soft mallet, but that won't even budge it. A couple of whacks with a sledge will have it apart in a few seconds.
wow! I'm having this same problem right now.
Hate to revive an old thread... but I have the same problem.
I've hit the damn inboard joint with 3 different hammers. I've also tried prying it a **** load of times.
I'm guessing it's that damn ring pin at the end but How do i unseat it?
