I just had this happen to me. It turned out to be a bad a/c idler pulley that commited suicide by throwing itself down the freeway, but hte noise went away. If no a/c on your car, check the following- power steering fluid level, alternator bearing (alt gets really hot to touch) and I was told to check if timing belt is getting loose which should not be a problem if replaced recently.

yea that kind of makes sense because it could be the pulley pulling the rpms down ...power steering fluid is fine...if it is the alternator that means i have to replace the whole alternator right...i dont want my ac idler pulley to throw its self on the freeway...

It was actually the idler pulley itself that came off. I assume since I just bought the car and the dope told me he just did a bunch of a/c work (did not care as it's coming out anyway) that maybe he did not properly tighten or install the pulley. Rub your fingers on the drive surfaces of the belts-WITH THE ENGINE OFF- and see if any of them have chalky black stuff on them. I would go with that drive system then.

ok im beginning to think it was just me hearing the noises because i wanted to believe it was the pulleys but now that i think about it, it could be something in the fuel system...my car isnt idling right and it sputters when i accelerate to fast
