Default Anyone else bent valves without misshifting?

The cars in the shop getting some snail work. They do a compression check:220 220 160 140. They thought it was just the head gasket leaking between 3 and 4, but they send it to the machine shop just for good measure. Turns out I've got three bent exhaust valves. I have never misshifted. Ever. I have however driven my car VERY hard. 10 DE's banging the rev-limiter and down shifting aggressively.

Lesson learned: take it easy on the car man.

Oh well, gotta pay to play.

Now I'll be without a car for another 2 weeks. I'm getting tired of walking everywhere. My job which is close to home is wrapping up, and my next one may be 50 kms away and not on a bus route.

Lesson learned: always have a back-up.

oh well. Time to get drunk.

hard downshifting is probably the culprit on this one.

so.. what was the original reason for taking your car to the shop? they took the head off and just sent it to the machine shop? did they even do a leakdown test themselves?

Car is getting a turbo. They did a leakdown and suspected headgasket failure. They sent it to the machine shop because something was wrong with the guides or seals or something. The shop is on the up and up. Pics of my setup will be up in a couple weeks.

im guessing you have a lightweight flywheel as well?

you were prolly getting alot of valvefloat at different rpm when you accerate adn downshift and it bent the valves

i had it happen on my itr/portlfow combo with a mild setup only going to 8500rpm

time to get some stiffer springs.

just becaue something doesnt coil bind, doesnt always mean that the spring is doing its job properly.

CM 7.5 lb. How does that contribute to valve float?

Bumping of the limiter and shifting hard can't be healthy! <shakes head>

I've done it. I consider it my fault though. I went to Skunk II stage one cams at around 50,000mi and at 75k my car started running like crap and had low compression on all cylinders. Mine occured however by the timing belt slipping, which I should have changed when I did the cams. I'm now equipped with Portflow inners as insurance and a new T belt (of course) which I will change at more frequent intervals.

I've heard about downshifting causing valve float as well. When you mean downshifting hard are you talking about guys that don't rev match?

I bent a valve with Nitrous (50 shot), replaced valve, no big deal (thanks D)

I did a lot worse on the 70 shot

Interesting. What springs should I upgrade to? Cams are stock, turbo will be pushing 7lbs (if that makes a difference).

there are alot of different choices out there.

well i would ask the guy that is going to work on your head.
or send it to some one who knows honda heads good and have them do the work. (erics, rlz, jg, alaniz, or portflow) among many others out there

if you are getting valvefloat you are missing out on power that is leaking through the valves

if you are gona run high boost, u might want to look into SS valves. I like the idea of the ferrea combo with valves/retainers/keepers/springs but there are alot of other choices out htere. i would prolly go with whatever the good head ported recomends. they know a **** load of stuff about valve and spring tech

I destroy a few stock ITR clutches at the track while missed shifting, VAFC read 9999 RPMs.....................valvetrain is for sale, lol
