Have you been to Summit Point lately?

bah. You just hate Summit Point.

Well yeah, but the banking in that picture is... well... just about exactly the width of an autocross course.
Maybe I'm missing something.
Scott, who thinks the boys at S.P. should have skipped the whole new course thing and spend the money to totally resurface that patchwork quilt they call the main circuit.

LOL, I look like I'm about to slide down the banking in that photo...
If you screw up there, you're going to launch your car like a missile over the earthen barrier. You're eitehr on it or off it, unless you want to tear out the bottom of your car. I'm still not sure how they can run a race there, but for DE purposes it should be great! Per our discussion on Saturday, if they are going to run the course like the Nurburgring, then you'll be coming down that straight and entering the bowl, then exiting, and heading downhill in that nasty off-camber corner...

I went back and looked at all the pictures in Karen's link. That CAN'T be a track for W2W racing for anything other than karts and motorcycles. It just isn't wide enough.
Now HERE's (the pic on the far right) a banked turn you can race on (Barber Motorsports Park):
Scott, who thinks the SP crew has constructed the worlds greatest kart track <shrugs again>

I read on a motorcycle forum that they don't like it thanks to the use of concrete. Either way, it'll sure be interesting!

it seems like it would be hard to build up the top that much, but let's not forget that they have not put the top asphalt layers down yet...

Nurburgring turn two wide = ok
Shenandoah turn two wide = somebody is loosing a transmission and exhaust and oil pan and a lot of unneccesary overpriced dealer installed undercoating.

I'm totally scratching my head asking myself "What were they thinking?" If you go off in that corner, it's going to be a fiasco.

Yeah notice how the nurburgring turn, even if you go off the you are still going to be driving on a similar bank, but the turn pictured above just looks dangerous. I guess we have to see it when it's done, but man that looks scary as hell. Everyone is going to be going slow as hell their first time through that turn.
I can't imagine anyone gaining traction after jumping the top.

When I was told that they went over and took actual measurements of the Nurburgring turn to make the model for SP, I expected to see a model of the Nurburgring turn.
I know the track isn't finished yet, but it doesn't look like their building this turn up anymore.
The track is going to kick ***, yes.
But this turn is going to leave a lot of car parts on the track and a lot of p.o'd drivers. (Hopefully P.O'd is all their going to be

Oh man, I'm having visions of going into that turn in an H1 car and catching a spec RX7 halfway through. Hell, even if you run at the top, if somebody on the banking loses it they are taking you out hard...
This isn't quite as bad as Englishtown, but it blows my mind how these track builders seem to forget that people are going to be racing there.
