1st gen B16's with single or dual spring valve train.....
So I've been doing a lot of research on this and have come to a dead end. which cars have single or dual valve train? From what I understand a lot of automatic (Japan only) b16's came with single and a less of a aggressive cam then the dual spring PLUS a lower redline.
Is there a way to tell as far as what tranny it's mated it with and what car it's from? S1, YS1, Y, J1, etc..
anyways thanx in advance

auto b16's have single valve springs, while the others have dual
also i think if the serial # starts with 1 is out of a integra and if it starts with 5 is a civic, 1st gen that is.

hmmmmmmmm some ppl still disagree with this. Does anybody have any for sure facts on this? Also do you think that the distributors are mating single valve B16's with a different tranny?

The 1st gen b16 auto's have single valve springs! The manual 1st gen b16's have dual intake valve springs, and single exhaust springs! This is due to the more aggressive intake cam on the manuals! I have never tore apart a manual 1st gen b16, but have had plenty of the auto's....
Yes, automatic (JDM) B16A heads have single intake valve springs as well as exhaust. I can vouch for this cause the motor i bought came from an auto and i did a 99 GSR cam and spring upgrade.
my manual b16a swap came with single intake springs it definitly wasnt auto, i think it was a 89 motor- so i switched to ef-1's
as for trannies i really dont remeber what tranny goes to what car/motor
ys1 is integra i belive
si, y1 were civic/crx?
redline depends on ecu pr3-8200, pwo is like 7800-7900ish

also, some of the 1st B16's have aluminum retainers, nothing special as I hear they break.
