I need to know how to remove the key ignition solonoid (the part the key goes into) in a 96-00 civic. My uncle is a lock smith and he is going to rekey it for me.

The reason i want to re key it is, the car was broken into before and the ignition was tore up, so now i have 1 key for the doors/trunk, and 1 key for the ignition. I just want 1 key for everything.

The part the key goes in isn't the solenoid. I think you got to pull the wheel and take all that stuff off.

 

its easy.
take the underside panel off the steering column off.
you'll see it.
remove it.
done.

 

no, we are refering to where the key acually goes in, not the housing of the ignition switch, the actual lock...

there is a trick to it. you might want to call a dealership and ask them cuz i forget what it is..

 

You have to remove the plastic interior pieces,drop the steering wheel 2 bolts hold it up,when you drop the wheel you will see a strap around the collum w/ 2 bolts.Cut or drill the bolts holding the strap.I had to cut the strap w/cutt-off disc to remove it.

Its actually a peice of cake.. Im not sure if you're able to do it with the ignition still on the column.. I always do it when its off.. But with the original lock thats in the ignition now you turn the key to on position theres a little button on the ignition somewhere you need to get a small scredriver or a nail or something and push that little button in now the lock should just slide right out.. Some times theres a star screw thats on the ignition too, if thats there that also needs to be removed.. I'll try and shoot some pics to give a better explanation
