Is $265 good to have new CV boots installed?
I would do it myself, but its too dang cold and I dont want to mess with it wearing a snow suit. They arent clicking or anyhting, but there are some serious "valleys" or cracks I guess you could say in between the ribs.
Or is it a better idea to wait till they do start leaking untill they click and then have the whole shaft + boot replaced?
Also, Im sure it would be more $ but should I have them do the inner ones also? They arent cracked yet, but I wonder if they ever go bad? they dont have to flex near as much.
thanks!

i'd say just wait till they rip open, that way u can do it yourself and save some $$$. but if u just want to be safe, then go ahead and get them done. goodluck!!!
my 97 accord cv boots are crack already....
new boots cost me 20 X4 - 80.....do it myself......
pretty easy. actually......
if you spend 260 for cv boot jobs, sound like good deal..
it is a dirty job.....i mean dirty w/ all those grease.....one wouldn't like it

Yea, I would definately wait and do it yourself. It's really not a hard job at all and you should be able to do both in an hour. (more if you want to take them out first and then go to a shop to trade it as a core for a better price). But I'm just like that and I hate paying labor for something I know is not too hard to do.
it cost 30 dollars for a new boot kit.
at kragen auto parts you buy new axle for 60 bucks with your old core.
i would pay 30 dollars more for a new axle and install it myself. buy a service manual and do it yourself.. not too hard. just buy a breaker bar for your axle nut.

you are paying too much for the GREASE.
there's a way to check if the axle is going bad or not, if the ball and bearing are bad, you'll need a remanufactured alxe or new alxe.
if the ball and bearing are good, go ahead and replace the boot(both inner and outer boot).
once the boot rip/tear, the grease come out flying everywhere and the dust and dirt come in contact with the ***** inside and grind that sucker to death.

I paid about $120 installed to get a whole new remanufactured Axle. It was a local shop near me. But I have friends whom said they got pretty much the same deal from Pep Boys.
I say shop around for a better price.
Ps. mine came with a warranty parts & labor.

you gotta replace the boot anyway, might as well wait a while till you can do them yourself and save some cash, just inspect them daily to make sure the boots don't have any gaping cracks where contaminants will **** your **** up to the point where you gotta replace the whole assembly.
autozone has replacement kits for like $30, that leaves $230 for labor which is way too much imo.

Thanks for all the replies!
About core swapping though, I have heard bad things about getting crap that goes bad from places like pep boys and auto zone. Even if pep has a lifetime warrenty, didnt someone on here say they had to take their car back in like 3 times because they kept installing junk shafts?
What about exchanging for actual Honda shafts/boots? do dealerships do that? Probably more expensive... but you know its good stuff.( Mine are orig. equipment and its a 94!)
again, thanks for the help!
