Common H22 swap problems
Any of you guys who have h22 swap experience...If you would, list here the common problems encountered when the swap is finished, such as...you know, idle problems, exhaust system fitment, you get the idea...and how to fix them.
Just so those of us who plan on doing the swap will be prepared :-P

93 accord
downpipe doesnt bolt up to cat, gotta goto a muffler shop
the h22 tranny mount peg holes have to be threaded and relocated for the stock accord mount to fit
accord/h22 harness has to be combined
the end of the accord power steering line has to be replaced by the end of the h22 ps line
ect from accord has to be put onto the h22 for the fan to work correctly
a few other hoses/lines have to be lengthened/shortened for propper fit, not sure which though

wiring is the biggest problem....at least for my swap it was...friends and i had to custom wire the obd1 distributor from an obd2 harness...needless to say, that was a bitch...if you are going obd1->obd1 you shouldn't have too many pains in the asses....oh yeah, i always throw the a code for the o2 sensor every time i am in vtec...other than that it's very straight forward...
well if your accord is obd2 and you want a obd1 motor just get a conversition harness from skunk2.thats what i did. same mounts were used.same axles were used.the only thing is the power stearing pump line.you can use either the main accord line and cut it 6-8inches from the pump it self and weld a perlude line to conect to the pump.if done right wont leak and almost undectabale.and this is for the 6gen accord i dont know about the others

almost everything listed ia not a problem its jsutu a part opf the swap.
the most common problems are these;
1. shops thinking the h series is just a big b series and not having a ******* clue when they install it for you. then they charge more, dont do it right and screw you over.
2. the second biggest problem is people who are too cheap to get a shop to do it right and dont have the knowledge or experience to do it themselves, they do it anyway and **** it up and take months to figure out stuff that could have been saved at first with more knowledge and DAMN HELM MANUAL!!!
basically lack of knowledge and experience is the biggest problem, if you are someone who NEEDS a step by step guide to swap a motor it is best not to do it yourself.

also being cheap and having a motor swap done right usually is a recipe for problems in the future.

In order to gain experience one must one must actually DO it. If you need a step by step guide that means you have less knowledge and experience then some. That does NOT mean you should not tackle this or any project that you believe you can do with some instructions. You LEARN by doing and sometimes screwing up. What's important is that you learn from your mistakes. Afterwards you may be able to help someone else with their swap. Like he said, get a helms for both the accord and the prelude and there are a few step by step guide you can find on the web by searching.

Exactly I didnt do my h22 swap, but we put my old sohc vtec motor in my freinds accord dx. Me and him had never done a swap before. We finished it in 2 weekends. I gained a lot of knowledge from it. I think now i would have no problem doing a h22 swap.

i think a good place for you to find out this kind of information is by contacting one of those JDM motor distributors and asking them if they can suggest a reputable place in your area to do your work and install the motor into your car, and if they cant tell you, i dont know, take that as a hint, maybe they arent so reputable themselves, then consider that and try another...if they want to sell you a motor, they will tell you!
how does the motor swap effect emissions? in NJ the **** is strict, will it pass if its a JDM?

i did my swap in 4 eight hour days and the only thing that set me back a couple hours was wireing my usdm external coil wireing harness to my jdm internal coil motor. it was a simple fix. then Istarted it up, no CEL's and off to the muffler shop.

Would you mind telling us specifically how you went about doing that? I will be swapping a jdm h22 soon and would like to know.
