Is doing a H22 swap into a 2.3 CL like an Accord swap? Anyone done it? lmk
Im doing a project civic this winter.. and im considering buying a 2.3 CL as a daily driver.. and i may keep it as a work commuter for future use.. what im wondering is this- the CL is basically the same thing as an accord coupe no? (im not very familiar with these cars).. so does that mean its an easy swap candiate for an H22?? What mounts need to be used? what mods are involved? is it worth it? should i stay sohc to keep the gas mileage? what do you guys think? Im going K-series in a 98 coupe.. and the last thing i need is two project cars.. but anyway.. lmk
thanks

It should be the same as doing a h22 into an accord with f23.
I've done two h22 swaps into 6th gen accords.
The only thing I've found different on the f22 and the f23 is the driver side mount.
You need to take the f23 driverside mounting bracket(bolts to the block) and put it on the h22. It takes a little modification. You need to slot the bottom hole on the mount and trim the top of the mount. Once you hold the f23 mount up to the h22, it will be pretty obvious how much needs trimmed.
I would recommend either converting to obd1 or obd2A, so you dont have to deal with the immobilizer.
Now, is it worth it? Sorry, but I'd say "no".
Your CL is probably a bit heavier than the accord and the accord, by no means, was fast.
He ran a low 10.xx in the 1/8th mile here, which would be a high 15 - low 16sec 1/4.
I'd say keep the f23 and enjoy a nice comfortable, reliable, car that gets good gas mileage and that you can get worked on at the dealer.

the 5th gens were signfically lighter than the 6th gens. (almost a 300 pound difference) accords, so a 2.3 CL that is similar to the 5th gen, (which I believed was from 97-98) wouldt be that heavy.
still, 3100 pounds or so isnt light either.

His CL is either a '98 or '99 since the '97s only came with the 2.2L and the '00+ no longer came with a 4cyl.
So 2.3 CL is similar to the 6th gen accords(98-02). '98 was the first year that honda introduced the 2.3(6th gen accords, 1st gen CL's and only the '98 Odyssesys).
Also, from what I understand the weight difference between a 5th gen sedan w/ a 4cyl and a 6th gen sedan w/ a 4cyl is under 50lbs..
The CL is another 100-200lbs on top of that.

I abandoned the idea entirely. Im doing a k20 into a 98dx coupe.. and i managed to find another 98 coupe but ex with sunroof, a/c, all power, etc. at a really good price.. so i decided it was a much better car for what i needed it for and etc. anyhow.
my biggest thing was gas mileage and wanted something reliable to drive back and forth to work. in the end another civic proved to be a much better deal than buying that CL. The last thing i needed was another possible project anyhow.
