N/A Setup for JDM R Motor
Given 2k - $2500
Can you please give me your suggestions in what you would do, what brand name parts you would go with? I am looking so with all these mods I can hit 12's all motor and still be streetable. I have read past posts on people favoring the Todas and Juns, but which one is better? Wat about internals and valve train which brand are reputable that are the best? Thank You
My current mods so far:
96 JDM R Motor
96 JDM R Tranny
I/E/H (AEM CAI, APEXI N1, JDM 4-1)
Carsound Cat
Spoon ECU
Apexi V-AFC
AEM Fuel Rail & AEM FPR

I have actually done some research and read people's comments, however it's still all a blur to me in which I am hoping to get everyone's help and suggestions...
In regards to todays tragic event, there is not much that we can do as of right but pray that the casualities are at a minimal...

I'll suggest toda b's...
plus their valve spring kit and gen 2 cam gears
plus some Ti retainers
Then up compression to really get some oomph out of them...
If you want to go with Jun, you'll need the type 3's and their valvetrain and ecu...
I have heard of people blowing up their motors with the Jun setup, so that's why I went with Toda...
If you want a really good setup, then spec c's with the above plus fuel system upgrade - adjustable fpr, higher flow fuel pump, bigger injectors...
headwork, compression, hytech everything...

first i would buy another ecu then sell the spoon one so you can make some money out of that. the reason for this is that you have a vfac all ready so it can be tuned on its own and spoon is for road racing so the midrange range is better than the top end. i knew someone that had a spoon ecu and i couldn't even feel the vtec crossover ok i could but it was really gradually and you should know that's not great for drag then after that i agree with allmotor_2.0 and one last question what kind of car is this in
Think about it though, when you have a smooth V-TEC X-over, that means that you aren't giving the smaller lobes a chance to lose power before the switch. Unless the aggressive lobes are just so damn kickass that you can't make it smooth...

the switch is really fast i'd expect like almost instant a couple 100 RPMS and it jumps the hp up...example like on a dyno...not rounded but straight
hard to do with only $2-2.5k...this setup's a lil over that...
Toda B's w/ cam gears, springs, and ti retainers...$1400 (Jun 3's are an option too, but their packages are more pricey)
portflow head...$750
custom ECU for your setup...~$150-$500
Actually, if you sell the Spoon ECU and get some money back, you'd be in your range. The Spoon's a good program and a smooth x-over's good, but it doesn't take into account the headwork and wilder Toda B cams (Spoon ECU's programmed for Spoon cams). The Toda B's require a much higher VTEC x-over than Spoons and that's better to do with an ECU than the v-afc so you can switch ignition timing maps over at the same time. Also, if you have some extra bucks, sell the N1 and get a 2.5" cat-back system (everything else is 2.5"...JDM ITR and cat...why have a bottleneck at the exhaust?). To make more power, you'd need higher compression and that'll put you way over your limit. Remember the cost of tuning also. Toda C's require more than what your budget's at to work well.
