VAFC - VTEC Air Flow Converter.

Notice - VTEC. As in - Made for Honda/Acura.

Yes - you can use the VAFC on the Nissan - but only for fuel stuff. Itll be just like an SAFC. You cannot control Nissan's variable valve timing with a VAFC.

Aside from the VTEC thingy....

Nissan's use a hot-wire MAF to measure to determine mass air. Honda's use a MAP sensor to calculate mass air.

Granted that both use a 0-5V sensor input voltage range, I don't believe they can be used interchangeably b/c of the translation of the input voltage on the sensor end. I'm not really sure how to explain it. It's just different....there, that ties things up nicely. Maybe Jim Blake can explain.

Listen to him. He knows alot more than me.
So we are saying that even an SAFC will not work on a Nissan or...?

No. Just the VAFC's. The VAFC only works with MAP sensor-based engine management systems.

The SAFC has a user-definable sensor type (eg: Karman Vortex, Hot-wire, or MAP) so that you can use it on any sensor type. You have to know what type of sensor the system uses to determine engine load before you can select. The SAFC manual has charts to help you with that, but the general rule of thumb is that DSM's always use Karman Vortex, Nissan's use Hot-wire MAF, and Honda's use MAP. I'm not sure what kind of MAF Toyota uses, but their turbo cars utilize both MAP and a MAF.

Well...I guess I was half right. I did say the VAFC wouldnt control the Nissan's variable valve timing.

The QR25DE Has variable timing. Its not CAM Switching like in a VTEC.. Nissans VVL Motors from JAPAN like the SR20VE have a VTEC Like CAM PROFILE Switching
mechanism. A VAFC would work with NEOVVL Motors but not the Spec V. The spec V's is nothing special.

The "changeover" you hear is the secondary intake runners opening up. CVTC is continous, its not like vtec. go to b15sentra.net and search for secondary intake runners and you will find tons of information.
