Ok so im in Rochester, its icey, I head out to a vacant lot and spin some donuts on the ice. After a few the car gets way louder but doesnt throw any CEL's. I park it and listen to it with the hood up sounds like an exhuast leak in the 2pc header. How aside from this being loud and very annoying is there any chance of harm to the car?
does it sound like its comming from the front of the engine?
A good chance is that you welded the spider gears together in your differential. when i say welded, i mean it got so hot that they welded themselves together, its a common problem in winter weather areas of the country. was one tire spinning more than the other most of the time when you were doing doughnuts? if so, i can almost guarntee it.

I don't think that would cause an exhaust leak. Check your exhaust manifold flange, see that it's sitting tight, check your exhaust piping. You may have shook something loose, and it's not sealing all the way.

the exhuast manifold is seated fine, but i cant tell if maybe one of the 2 gaskets in it are ok. Spider gears, what do they do? Would the car still drive fine and run if they were welded together?
Thanks
Dan

Is there any white smoke?? Oil in the coolant??? I just think you have an exhaust leak somewhere, thats where I'd start. Check all gaskets, bolts, and nuts to make sure they are tight.

no theres no white smoke, i mean there is some but its only when the car starts like warming up. Wouldnt a blown head gasket impede performance somewhat. The car feels the same as it always has aside from the loud *** noise. AGain thanks for any help keep the ideas coming, right now im still thinkin exhaust leak cause to my knowledge a blown hg would mean somewhere there isnt combustion happening which would mean a noticeable decerease in power.

If its a small leak between the cylinders you wont really notice a loss of power

When i was driving in the ICe in Texas last year i got an exuast leak from just normal driving but it went away when it got warmer outside or when i first started my car. prolly from it scraping the snow or ice.

ok i was just out driving it for about an hour. I didnt throw any CEL's always ran the same but had that damn noise. Like the floorpanel vibrates from it. I looked and it wasnt blowing smoke and although i couldnt see the coolant res. (its late) i just dipped the tube in and the liquid looked like regular coolant. What symptoms would the spider gear thing exhibit? Its like freezing cold out here so i imagine i would have to spinning one wheel for a good bit for it to weld them together. In any case wouldnt the computer throw a code if any of the above was wrong(head gasket, spider gears)
Thanks again fellas
Thanks again fellas
uh it wouldnt make much difference of the outside temp when it comes to internal tranny parts once its hot. heat just isnt disipated fast enough even if its freezing as hell. i dont have any experience with the spider gears welding together tho but my guess is its exhaust leak if ur car operates just as well as it did before. was there deep snow or bumps? i knocked off my muffler this way.

Ok I understand. Yeah the lot was covered in like rock solid ice with a decent amount of rift and ditches. Im gonna check the coolant tomorrow during the day.

Ok checked the coolant today, aside from being low and sorta dirty i didnt see any oil. The i reached down the header and felt around where the 2 pieces meet. All 3 nuts that hold the the header together are gone.... it hink ive found the problem. PHEW

Glad you found the problem, the spider gear issue was just a possibility, be glad thats what didnt happen, because thats a costly repair. thats some wierd **** though, loosing your bolts and all. oh well...
