MSD Ignition Question
Ok, i just bought a complete MSD ignition setup off my friend, and i am having a hell of a time trying to find a place to mount the ignition (red box).
I have pretty much concluded that there is no place possible to mount it in the engine bay of a 98 gsr without fabricating some kind of crazy weird bracket system. Sooooo, I will probably put it under my passenger side seat.
And what I was wondering was if the unit itself makes any sort of electric noise. Like a wining or whistling or something like that. I read somewhere that they do emit some sort of sound. Because i really dont want to be constantly hearing this if i do decide to put in inside the car somewhere.
Thanks a lot for your help

I couldn't mount mine on the firewall because of some stuff in the way and I wanted it to sit flush. So I mounted it here:
I stuck a screw in the top left MSD hole into an airbox screw hole (lol) to hold it down. And for the bottom left, I zip tied the hole to a wire plug next to the ABS. It's wedged between my intake and ABS and it's not going anywhere.

The MSD ignition creates better combustion for your motor but it's not something that will make significant power gains for it. If you wanted your motor to put out more power go with other upgrades first because MSD would only be beneficial as one of the last upgrades that you should make with your car.
Cheers

I looked in my engine bay and held the unit up where that guy mounted his unit, and i might be able to fit it there but it will be tight.
TurboTeG4, can you post a pic of the bracket you made, i think i can fit it on its side but a picture would be most helpful thanks
I was also thinking of mounting it inside the car behind where the cd player is. Will it matter that when the heat is on hot air will be blowing on the unit?
Thanks guys

Maybe this will motivate me to mount a new CC switch for those fun 5 hour drives.

I need to see if there is a point other than the one I used for most of my other electronics to stick the wires through. If not, I guess ill have to get a grommet and drill a hole. Anyone know where to get OEM like grommets that are round, maybe 3/4"?

Do you know where to get grommets of that type/quality?

Bling Bling.....passangers best keep their feet off my **** or i'll start bustin caps in jiggas. lol jk. i think i might make a custom kick panel on that side to fit my 3 step rev, and 3 step retard boxes. then i can have some fun.
hey if you like noise inside your car
like a chatterbug go ahead
not to mention you will lose you AM reception....
make sure you use a good wire loom cause if you dont the wires will
crack and start making contact with any ground...
and that goes for all the msd wiring.....

my box makes no noise. i dont have an antenna so i cant test am reception, but im sure i lost most radio stations. i know 2 other people with boxes ni their cars. i never heard of the box makin noises but you cant use nextels while the car is running.
stock honda ignitions are sufficient to like 300HP. MSD are really a waste of money unless you want/need the retard features or you need perfectly precise timing.. if your bolt on only your better off buying NGK iridiums, good tension wires and keeping an eye on your cap and rotor... then just advance the timing
The MSD ignitions start making noises when the transformer inside the box gets old. Mine made the whining noises as well as everyone else I know who has an msd ignition. I've spoken to an MSD worker through the tech line and he told me that there isn't much you can do about the noise but keep on replacing the transformer. I had mine mounted in the glove box, but it was too loud so I mounted it on the firewall with two screws as well. The only problem with mounting it on the firewall is that my idle was all messed up becasue the box was in the way of my throttle cable. I just ended up taking the ignition out since I don't even need it anyways.
