HelP!!! rebuild ls
I need some advice,.. i have a ls block b18a in my garage. The kid that had it before me spun a bearing and im going to rebuild it. I want it bullet proof to handle 100+ shot of wet nos. I need some advice as to what pistons and connecting rods to buy. any advice would help
I guess it all comes down to how much $$$ you have to spend. There are several aftermarket rods and pistons to choose from. If you're on a limited budget, I know that Eagle makes strong rods for around $350-400 a set. Crower and other companies make great rods too, but they tend to be more expensive. Piston wise, you have several choices. You could use OEM Honda ITR, GSR, B16, etc pistons, which would raise your compression up from the stock 9.2:1. High compression isn't necessarily good for nitrous, but you could get away with anything less than 10.5:1 and run a 100 shot. Forged pistons might be a better bet for you though, since the engine will be forced to endure higher operating temps when spraying. JE, Arias, Ross, etc are good forged pistons, they will probably run you around $500-600 for a set of four. It might be in your best interest to overbore the motor .025" so you can make additional power on top of having fresh cylinder walls for the new rings to seat against. It won't be cheap to build a bulletproof motor by any means, but hopefully this gives you some insight in to what to expect and look for. Try doing a search as well, there's lots of stuff I've missed that you can find out about. Good luck with your project.
