Perfect Compression on all four cyclinders
Im about to buy a used RSX, so what are perfect numbers for RSX's through all 4 cylinders? For example the perfect numbers for preludes would be 240 across the board. And they run 10:1 compression.
I don't know if this is any good but the manual says it should be 135psi at 250rpm's at wide open throttle with a maximum variation of 28psi...Does that help?
The manual says to have someone hold the throttle wide open with all ignition coils removed. Duh.....Then crank the engine over and the max is 135psi with the 28psi variation. Good Luck

Sorry I haven't did one "hands on" but I just thought the info from the manual that every Acura dealer would use might be USEFULL
for me.

I did a compression test on my Type S roughly 8 months ago (around 6,000 miles on the odometer. My car didn't stop using oil until 8,000 miles.) and got around 185-195psi. I've seen people on clubrsx get around 220psi and up. It really all depends on the compression gauge. As long as the numbers are pretty close/consistent across the board, then the motor should be ok.
According to the Helms, section 6-6, compression should be above 135psi at 250 rpm, and the maximum variation between cylinders should not exceed 28psi.

Do you have someone inside the vehicle also holding the throttle at wide open, If not then each cylinder compression is backing "up" and taking the pressure higher. At wide open throttle some of the cylinder pressure is going back through the throttle body...Thats the way Honda/Acura says to do it...I'm not sure why but I can find out.

Well i never do a compression test by myself, seeing that it is rather difficult to keep the throttle at WOT and crank the motor at the same time while looking at the compression gauge. I have a friend stay in the car to give it WOT and crank it while i'm looking at the gauge.
The Helms does say to keep the RPM's at 250 rpm while doing the compression test, so that's at WOT. So to answer your question, yes i do test my compression at WOT.
