D15 (CRX DX) Crank Pulley vs. D16Z6, Y8, Unorthedox - Why Lightweight = Kaboom
If you guys have ever weighed a CRX DX Crank pulley vs. a z6 or y8, you know that it feels about 10 lbs lighter. I spoke with Mista Bone about the d15 pulley (on a d16z6) and he said it has the same problems as lightweight pulleys (as far as main bearing wear goes). Now, my question is, what makes this pulley so bad? It's OEM (Ballanced/dampered) on basically the same block/crank as a z6, so what makes it wear bearings? Is it that extra 1000 rpms the z6 revs to? wouldn't a lighter pulley go hand in hand with a lightened flywheel?

I think he was using a d15 pulley on this motor.
Plus being undampened it WILL destroy you main bearings if the engine used a heavy pulley to begin with, like on a Z6 SOHC VTEC.

If you take ur entire rotating assembly(pistons, rods, crank, flywheel, clutch, pulley) and get it all balanced you will be just as good as balanced from factory..most likely better. but is it worth it?
I think if you just throw a little mobile 1 synthetic in there, you'll be alright
Seriously though, it make sense for honda to use a heavy crank pulley because a heavy weight at the end of a spinning shaft will ballance the shaft (kinda like a gyroscope), but why put such a light one on the d15? Has anybody else running a lightweight crank pulley had the same problem as Mista Bone?

it woulnt do any harm as long as its balanced. Its just like putting a lightened flywheel on. It woulnt do any harm just becuz its lighter, It only cuz's problems when its out of balance and "wobbles". You could put a 2 pound pulley on there if u want, As long as you have everything balanced to work with that pulley.

so do you think that mistabone's damage was caused by overrevving or oil starvation (or some other cause other than the pulley)

i honestly dont believe that it was due to the pulley. If it were that out of balance i dont see how the oil grooves stayed so straight and true with that much vibration. Im thinking oil starvation.
