Default oil turning black after 500 miles

My oil turns jet black 500 miles after I change my oil. I change the filter every oil change and I only go about 2800 miles before I change my oil. I use Valvoline high milage now, but i have tried others (castrol gtx h.m.) and the same problem occured. I dont really rip it that often maybe only a couple times a week. Is this normal? should I be concerned? Anythign I can do? I have 126k on my Lude. (94 vtec) Thanks.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the black color...although I would be more concerned about using any of these "high mileage" oils. I am not a fan of the High Mileage oils. I feel like it's a marketing ploy by the oil companies. People have been making Honda & other cars last for 200,000 & more miles long before these "High Mileage" oils came out. I am very weary of what additives are really in those oils...

I have a 93 VTEC w/160k miles on it and I had the same thing happen with my car. I would change my oil less than every 3000 miles and the oil still came out black. I had an engine flush done and the oil comes out a lot clearer now with each change.

Oil color isn't very indicative of it's condition . . . . If you're concerned about it, send off a sample to blackstone labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com) to find out if there's any need for concern.

black oil means that your oil is doing an effective job cleaning your motor.

and u don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles if you're driving normally. every 7500 is fine.
