Default mpfi swap- cranks but no start.

ok just finished my mpfi swap, i repinned everything, added the dizzy wires, swapped and added ecu wires, made my own subharness, everything's soldered and shrink wrapped. i think the battery might be the prob but not sure, motor cranks but won't fire, i'm brining a charger and a jump pack to try and remidy the problem. does the 2 wires for the dizzy have to be shielded? could that be the problem, because there by themselves in there own lume untill you hit go to the firewall where it meets up w/ the injector wires. i'm gonna triple check everything tonight, there's fresh front main seal, water pump, dizzy cap, rotor, plugs, pcv, fuel filter, banjo washers, clutch and flywheel are new from a 91, new ground cable from rad support to valvecover, new valve cover gasket, everything basicly but internals. i've done my own sr20det swap in a s13 240sx, and a jdm obd0 b16 in my 91 si, and on my si it was a ground but that just caused it not to turn over at all, checked grounds, guess i'm gonna have to check for fuel and spark now.... any suggestions would help. btw it's a 89 civic dx/pm6 ecu/89 d16a6.

Yeah, check to see if you have fuel and spark and go from there. Also, make sure you didn't mix up the two white wires at the distributor. I know that if they are reversed, that will produce a no start situation.

it could be the wires at the distributor i agree, that was another thing i was gonna try, wish there colors didn't bleech out, there both white now it does crank though......

so tomarrow, check:
grounds
check spark
check fuel
swap dizzy wires
check wires for correct connection.

I would just double check the grounds, make sure they are goodt. IF you painted the valve cover it might not be making a good contact.

ok so i checked and cleaned up my grounds, still no start, swapped 2 white wires at dizzy and still no start, i can smell gas so i suspect that i'm getting fuel, gonna check for spark now.... my only question is the car has not started, and the ecu is telling me there's a code 10 (IAT) i might have mixed it up w/ the iacv so i swapped them and still no luck, the car is closer to starting but it only pops a little every couple of ignition try's.... any idea's?

Sounds familiar. Make SURE you have the wires on the distributor cap in the right place and in the right order!

i'm pretty sure the spark plug wires are in the right order, but i'll double check that too, i'm gonna check for spark on all 4 cyls, i'm worried that the dizzy wires are mixed up or that i have my iat sensor wires going to my iacv..... i'll check my fsm, and my 91 si to see if the wires are right(colors that is) and i still can't understand y i'm getting a code 10 for iat sensor.

ok i only have 1 ground so we're fine there, i guess i had the iacv blue yellow wire hooked up to one of the injectors, so i fixed that, also did the d15 injector plugs happen to be the green and brown ones i wish i could find the ones i cut off, would have made my life tonight much easier, well so anyways, it's closer to starting no more code 10, fixed that, but still won't start right up, still tried swapping dizzy plugs, and still nothing, if i crank for 20-30 seconds it will almost start, but won't run any more idea's, spark plug wires are correct 1/3/4/2 starting from about 8 o'clock if you were to look directly at the distributor from the pass side. btw is the tandom valve the black and orange wired plug, i'm gonna look in my fsm

ok so the tandom valve is the orange and black/yellow wires that i thought it was, now my question is the 2 wires i added for the CYL Sensor...... do they need to be seperated from the rest of my subharness? i read in another post that it caused problems when they werent

After you changed the water pump, was the motor set to TDC and everything lined up and in time. Also, does the motor have compression? I'm just trying to take some shots in the dark.

i'm 99% positive everything is lined up, it sucks because i'm sure if there not aligned correctly it's only off by a hair, wish honda made it so you could lock the crank and cams in TDC, atleast w/ b16 you could put a dowl pin in a cam tower and keep that at tdc. as for compression.... i don't know, don't have a compression tester, i'm gonna check for spark today that's the only thing i haven't done.... and i'm gonna redo my harness unfortunately that means i have to pull it off the motor and pretty much out of the car

I'll check the fuses and spark first though.

fuses checked, no probs there. i'm gonna redo most of my solder connections, make the harness a little nicer..... other than that i have no clue what the prob is but maybe i made a mistake at the ecu????.....

also the only thing i can think it would be is the cyl wires are un shielded.

sounds to me like your plug wires are wrong. on the cap the got 1243 counter clockwise starting at 8 oclock and the cylinders are 1234 starting at timing belt going to the dizzy

He's already confirmed that he has the plug wires correct.
