motor allowances ITA vs H4?
I have a spare d16a6 I plan on rebuilding to the limits of rules for whereever I plan to race it. I'm currently racing solo2 still but I might step into club racing in 05 and I'm trying to do some research and planning.
What are the limits that you can build the motor to in ITA vs. H4 with the stock motor in 89 civic si.
thanks

I'd tell you to go buy and GCR, read it, then go to the honda-challenge, and read the rule book as well - but that would be too easy.
But I'll be nice today and give you a quick (incomplete) synopsis:
ITA:
- intake must take air from engine bay
- headers allowed
- up to 0.040" overbore
- head work up to one inch in intake and exhaust, valve job
- blueprint and balance ok
- stock flywheel (can be balanced)
H4:
- cold air intake allowed
- headers allowed
- up to first factory overbore (0.025")
- same headwork as above
- blueprint and balance ok
- any flywheel you want
Be aware that H-C rules may change in the next couple of weeks, when the new rules are published. My suggestion, wait a couple of weeks. For detailed information, see the beginning of my post and start reading.
hth.

IT and HC2-5 are very similar. Grab the rulebook @ http://www.honda-challenge.com/.
If you read the national rules for honda-challenge you will see you are allowed to use .040 pistons. Basically they are using very, very similar SCCA IT rules. I run in H4 as well and if you are deciding to run build it to SCCA spec and you will be able to run in both series.
youre right, actually just the internal engine specs are all the same. i was meaning about building the rest of the car, begins to become a totally separate ruleset.

well how competitive are the ITA cars once they get bumped up a class to H3?
I like the way the rules of hond-challenge is layed out. I've read them many times. I'm just trying to find the most logical thing to build the car for if I decide to convert it to road racing.

ITA CRX's are not bumped to H3, they stay in H4. id say a H4 car would be faster than a ITA anyway. most of the H4 entries are ITA cars as well anyway.

I thought last time I read the rules IT cars were bumped up a class? Its been awhile since i must have missed that.

I believe you can also run cold air intakes in HC.

Yes and no.
IT cars prepared BEYOND THE LIMITS OF HC were getting bumped. For example, in 2002, remote resevoir shocks were legal in IT...but not in Honda Challenge. So if I showed up in an ITS/H3 GS-R with Moton remote shocks on it, I bump to H2.
Bottom line is that the internal engine rules and ECU rules will end up being damn near identical to IT. Watch the websites in the next couple weeks, the 2004 Honda Challenge staff is working dilligently to close all this stuff down

I was told the bumping was *only* for cars prepared and logbooked for another class that happened to allow such modifications.... not for just bumping because the parts were there.

Good catch, I forgot about this. Bumps of any sort are for legal, logbooked cars from other series.

correct, but since the east coast rules had not been officially updated yet, I did not want to misinform. But I did mention that the rules would probably change in the next couple of weeks...
