VTEC Point on first gen b16 heads? b16 head questions?
I am running a 2000 sir block with a first gen b16 head and a p30 ecu. Any dangers with this setup? The p30 ecu has a 5500 rpm vtec point while I hear the 1st gen b16's have a lower vtec point. What should I set mine at (blah blah blah,i'll dyno later)? What are the differences between first and second gen b16 heads?
I set my vtec point at 5,100rpm. You should be fine at 5,500rpm
The differences of B16's that I know of:
1st gen: lower compression, lower profile on cams, white plugs
2nd gen: higher compression, higher profile on cams, green plugs
The differences of B16's that I know of:
1st gen: lower compression, lower profile on cams, white plugs
2nd gen: higher compression, higher profile on cams, green plugs
So should I follow the vtec point of my ecu or should I lower it to match my first gen cams? I have no idea because I have a first gen head and a second gen block.
i wouldnt worry about the vtec point, id worry about the ecu fueling correctly. I have ctr cams on my 1st get b16 and stock pr3 4800rpm vtec point, it runs fine, just need vtec a little higher.
