2 auto 2 manual questions , need help asap
ok, so we tackled the automatic to manual swap on my girlfriends 96 ex today, and other than that ******* bump in the floor hitting the linkage, its done. i have two questions.
1. it takes forever to get the key out of the ignition!, why?? does the car still think its auto? im using a manual ecu. and
2.there are two little sensors on the clutch pedal that dont seem to be there under the dash of the automatic car. can i leave these unplugged on the pedal?? or will the car not start because it doesnt think tha clutch is pushed in??
please let me know ASAP because this all has to be remedied tomorrow so i can get MY car back from my girlfriend. also, if you dont know, or dont have any useful advice to give me, dont post. just dont, i dont need a million replies of
"was the swap hard?? does it all bolt it?? what mods do you have to do???" dont ask me questions, please just answer mine. thanks

The automatic wiring harness wants to see the shift lever in P or N, otherwise it won't run the starter. A manual harness wants to see the clutch pressed in. You'll have to re-wire that stuff, so you'll want the wiring diagram for the car (Helm book). Compare the starter circuit auto vs. manual, & make the changes.
The other switch on the clutch pedal is probably for disengaging cruise control when you touch the pedal. The starter interlock is the switch that closes when the pedal is almost all the way down.
I think the manual car doesn't even have the mechanism that prevents you from taking out the key. But I don't know what to modify for that...

ok, so how will i be re-wireing this? can i just wire the starter signal to the ignition so that when i turn the key all the way it will start?? is there any way around doing it to right way? cause i kinda ripped all the wires out from around the shifter. i do have a manual, but its a chiltons, will that be fine? please someone let me know if they have any more valuable info, and thanks JimBlake

[looking at the harness where the auto shifter plugged in] if you look at the shifter and try to take it logically, you will see that when it is in park it makes a circuit with the two big black wires, which have to be spliced together when converting it to a manual (this will by-pass the clutch pedal sensor and will be able to start even when in gear, be careful) also, there are to more wires (if i remember correctly i think they were small green and black wires) that make a circuit too when in park, which releases the key in the ignition. I'll try to find my pictures when i did it and tell you the wire colors later tonight hope this helps some
that helped BIGTIME. please see if u can find me those pics, it will make my life so much easier, then we have nothing to worry about and everything will be cool on it. seriously man, those pics would be awesome if u can find them, thanks

well i cant find the pics, sorry. But I also thought of something else. For the reverse lights to work, you need to run wires from the sensor on the tranny to the harness from the auto shifter. just match the colors up from the sensor to the harness (i think the two wires are 1. yellow wire and 2. green wire with a black stripe)
