Cooling Question...Mugen Thermostat...etc...??
i have several questions about the honda cooling system...specifically related to aftermarket thermostats and switches etc. now i'm wondering if these can actually benefit a motor designed by honda to run at a certain temperature.
what i mean is...honda designs their engines to run at a standard operating temperature where the oil is at its maximum lubricating efficiency and head and block are not in danger of warping. for this motor to run cooler...would seem dangerous and less efficient...as a motor makes less power when its running cooler because the lubrication process isn't working at l00% effectiveness.
my solution to this has just been to run a bigger radiator...if the motor you have is overheating under certain conditions (like auto-x or road race) because the thermostat will open at the same temperature...and it depends on whether the radiator has the appropriate cooling capacity.

woudlnt your motor pretty much always be hot enough to lubricate efficiently? it seems that your overthinking this a little bit.....but i might be wrong. if your motor is running a little cooler, the air getting into it would be denser because the head wouldnt be so hot, resulting in more horsepower and longer engine life....i dont think you could get it cool enough to have a lubricating problem.

not really...again honda designs a b-series motor to run at a specific temperature...they test for thousands of hours to make sure the aluminum block and head are at the right temp...along with the oil temperature and water temp.
i am still unable to accept a 160 thermostat being good for a motor...but again maybe i'm not seeing something.

Concerning Temps run by honda/Acura engines. The factory specs have to due with emissions, fuel economy, etc.
We that race generally do not have concerns about fuel economy and emissions only horsepower. Hope this helps

I got the Spoon parts because:
1. I have a larger motor than what was in my car
2. I have a radiator that is made for the motor in my car
3. It gets hot in the summer- and makes my engine run a bit hotter
4. The parts have aided in keeping my summer temps at a reasonable level

, my car runs SOOO much cooler just because of it...that and a fan with more blades...helps a lot.
