Default Oil question

I just did a oil change and my surprise the oil level was low. Could this have hurt my engine? It was close to the lower level mark. And why is it so low?vtec?

No, it wont hurt your engine. it is normal. Oil gets burned, that is why they recommned in the owners manual to chekc the oil level each time you get gas.

Check oil VERY frequently on an ITR! They do tend to burn oil faster than most other cars. Not a design or manufacturing problem, just that it's how the motor works due to the close tolerances and high revs.

I beg to differ...

I've used Mobil 1 10w-30 since 3k and haven't burned oil, at least not noticeably on the dipstick.

Everyone seems to have different results. I've worked on 4 ITR engines and 3 of them burned oil like crazy. We had pour in a quart everytime we came back from the track yet one engine burnt so little oil, it was still almost full when we did the oil changes. I can't say I know how to explain the inconsistancies...

this might sound dumb but make sure youre on level ground. I don't hear much about the 2000 and 2001 ITR's eating up oil.

I'm pretty sure i'm on level ground.. hehe

We've been building swaps with almost every B series possible since a long time. B18C5's burn oil the most. Some do, some don't... We also put them to the test at the track very often, so we know they burn more oil than most engines at high revs.

There was a discussion thread on the Competition forum about this oil burning and seems like it's a truth most people running their ITRs at the track have to content with.
