Default Y1 tranny question

How much longer is the y1 tranny than the j1? I am going to buy a y1 lsd cable tranny and wanted to know if it is still a somewhat short tranny. I just hope it will stay in vtec when i shift. My vtec is set for 5100 and my redline is 8200.
