Can someone explain the obsession with solid rear axles?
Hey guys, I was just wondering why everybody is so hung up on doing soild rear axles...
I personally dont see the benefits other than a weight advantage which isnt really that major now that the rules state that you cant cut the rear subframe out anyways...
wouldnt a good lightened INDEPENDENT rear suspension fill these needs just as well?
Or is there something else that I am missing?
thx

who makes an independant?
and is price the only real advantage? or is there anything else that makes the solid superior to independent?

why did you end up going with the solid thats illeagal unless im missing somthing </TD></TR></TABLE>
from what i was told, solid axle is now legal for hot rod.
my solid axle will be similar to the mb how it mounts to the chassis, but the shape of the axle will be silimar to that of ericksracing, and it has spindle mount weld wheels on it. we havent started the fabrication on it yet, but ill be sure to post pics as soon as its done.(who knows how long that will take)

yeah, I just looked it up again, and it would appear that solid rear axles are allowed, as long as the struts mount to the stock shock tower location... and the floor can be cut too...
Maybe I am just reading it differently than I did last time, but I could've sworn that you couldnt cut the rear floor.... Oh well, more power to the people who already have solid rears...
