Default The reason why open lapping frustrates me (Vid)

Last Saturday Jim invited me to the IRDC open lapping day at Bremerton. It's their end-of-season fun day for the club. It was nice of Jim to invite me and it sounded like fun, so I went, and did have fun. Thanks Jim

What's frustrating about lapping days is you can't pass freely, so you end up getting behind "this guy". He was painfully slow through the corners and I pressed him pretty hard a few laps before this to let me by, which he did. When I caught him again a few laps later, I gave him some room and relaxed a bit assuming he'd let me pass on the front straight. Wrong.

That's okay, carma has a way of dealing with these little issues

PS. Rick, if you read this, thanks for the advice. I want to join you guys next year more than you know.

That can get annoying.
Looked like fun.

hehehe...Its almost as frustrating to watch as it is to be the victim.

We probably forgot to tell you that this wasn't a standard lapping day. A lot of drivers were giving their cars over to crew members or who ever they wanted to for that matter. At times the experience level was quite low.

I've got faith that we will see you out RR next year.

Rick

That was freaking great to see. It is also nice to hear your engine and exhaust. For a second I thought the car in front was going to tap the guy out of the way.

Was that guy a new driver? If not, then yes, I can share the frustration. But if it was his first time or he doesn't have the experience, that's a different story.

John, You know you love mustang (maybe it's a Camaro, but same thing) drivers

The course looks different, fun and interesting. Its not the standard SCCA course right?

John, it was great having you guys out there.

I shared in the frustration, I remember being right behind you when that car went around, and I was thinking "Yay, we can pass now". There were a number of cars that really held up the traffic in the corners, and had so much power that they felt they could put in a big enough gap that nobody could catch them. They were sadly mistaken, the Hondas ruled the track that day.

BTW, your car was doing a little pissing dog routine into 1 too, a couple inches.

Right. The IRDC set it up differently and it was a lot of fun in that configuration.

That reminds me of a track day at Grattan where i was held back by a hybrid VW Golf - he was eventually black flagged maybe 2 laps before the end of a session. After the session ended and half cool-down later one of the msafety martials was still talking to him. What's funny, though, is the question he asked me in the pits. It wen't something like that:

"What does that flag mean? I saw it during the entire session"

Strangly enough, he was pointing at the blue flag with a yellow stripe across it.

Just don't forget that all of us have been the rolling chicane at some point! I bet some guy has ver simular footage of me driving in front of them...

Sounded like a fun day and if my pig wasn't broken, I would have made the trip up.

Very true, however most of us didn't sign up to run intermediate or advanced groups on our 1st track day ever...

I'm not disputing the fact that i'm slow, but a little courtesy goes a long way - let the others enjoy the track as much as possible

same situation happened to me yesterday at streets of willow. i was behind this s2000 with my stock motored civic. anyways, i would tailgate him through the turns, but on the straights he would just punch it, and wouldn't let me pass. then when the turns came, i would catch up to him really fast. finally after a while, he let me pass...

a few heats later, he was behind me this time. he would tail me in the straight away, but on the turns i would leave him behind. after a few laps, the distance between us got so big that he couldn't even catch me in the straights this made me feel good, because he had a s2000, and all i have is a d16y7 in my ek
