hey i did search and this is all i could come up with.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=669255
my problem is the gsr intake manifold, what makes the secondary open? the car will be running his obd1 cx ecu for breakin his engine, due to low funds on another ecu (he will not be having vtec). i heard if u use the gsr manifold, it wont work right. can i wire a vaccum to the intake manifold to make the secondary open? if so where do i hook it up? does anyone have a picture? has anyone ever done this? if so can u give me your perspective on how it works.
o ya the car's setup is
94 honda civic cx
bone stock gsr
everything was rebuilt

so your buddy has a gsr motor right? if hes gonna be using the stock intake manifold, the only way the secondaries will open and close is if he uses the right gsr(p72) ecu. the secondaries will remain open w/ the CX ecu plus you wont have vtec and you'll lean out which can be bad for the motor. Now if you decide to go with the skunk2 gsr IM, then you eliminate the secondaries, also you can run a chip p28.
heres my write up

damn yoru write up wasnt the answer i was looking for
(thanks for your help though)? i was wondering how to hook up a vacuum to make the secondary open up?

there is an an armature on the side of the intake mani. the vacuum goes to that. but it need to be controlled by the ecu. there is an iab control thing under the intake manifold that you hook the other end of the vacuum line to.

yeah you can t off the vacuum under the intake manifold 1 go to the fpr the other go to your in secondary butterfly. it work at idle and open at wot. your best bet is to look for a gsr ecu.

thanks, how will it perform anywhere from 700-4000 rpm (he will be breaking it in and cant pass 4000rpms)? he is not plannign on buying a gsr ecu, we will get an after market im.

If you had a skunk2 GSR manifold consequently eliminating the secondaries, can you still run on a STOCK GSR ecu?? Or do you have to move to an ecu like the P28, where it's programmed not to have secondaries opening? What about hondata with the p72 ecu, would that be able to run the Skunk2 IM properly?

yes u can use the stock p72 ecu on a gsr motor w/ a skunk2 IM but you will notice a huge improvement when you get the ecu chipped.. it will be a night and day difference

How is he breaking in a motor that already has mileage on it? You can rev the **** out of it and nothing's going to break. And you can definately open the secondaries through a direct vacuum fitting on the intake bellows/actuator. It's just a mechanical way to do what the electronic ECU does for you.
You're definately going to need a VTEC ECU, though.

the engine was fully rebuilt will brand new parts. you can use a cx ecu and its not going to have vtec.

atleast get a p28 for like 100 bucks so you got vtec, but i would definately get a p72 or get it chipped to have p72 specs, it will run alot better.

Oh, I'm quite aware of what you "can" and "cannot" use to get the vehicle to move down the road, but you will definately be looking into a VTEC ecu in the near future, correct? If not, why buy a VTEC motor.

my friend is low on funds, he will eventually get a p28

if your friend was low on funds..how in the world did he afford that GSR swap....was it free?

he spend 3000 for a blown swap (he didnt know) and had it rebuilted. after that there was lots of other stuff missing.
