Car won't go in reverse ! Shift forks ?
I've been browsing some archive threads about this subject but no one never really answered the question. I know alot of people with B16A's or B18C's that have the same problem.
My engine has less than 15000m and I never abused the transmission.
But all of the sudden I can't go in reverse. It's like something is blocking the shifter to enter the gear. From what I heard it maybe the shift forks (3).
I will bring the car to my mechanic, but I just wanted to get some inputs from people that are in the same situation (or had the same issue)
And if it's the shift forks.... I know they are 55$ each.. but about how much to get them installed.
Thank you

try checking the shift linkage bushings along with washers. my buddy's car(slippyleskb) had the same problem and we diagnosed the problem to be the bushings worn out (which was quick) along with the washers on the stabilizer. we changed them to urithane and got new washers and boom it was able to go into gear. on the shift forks your looking at a couple hundred to change if you dont pull the tranny for them along with disassembly and reassembly. if u take it to them it will be considerably less...and even more if u take off the casing. both of which are very easy to do if you have any mechanical abilities and a helms manual. good luck
My vtec del sol (b16a3) does that too once and a while. To get it in i have to give it gas and let off the clutch alot, but slowly til it goes in. So does that mean i might have worn out bushings?
Bump, dont mean to bring this thread back from the dead but i think my shift forks might be out or going out etc. I had work done recently on my car. I needed a new ring/pinion gear installed. What has to come apart to do this? Since i got the car back i have two problems. ONly with second and reverse gear though
2nd gear goes in but doesnt have much room and will sometimes pop out of gear. It doesnt want to downshift into second at all either and its very hard to revmatch it in there too.
Reverse gear has the weirdest problem ever too. It doesnt have a problem going in but sometimes has a problem coming out and when you push the clutch back down while rolling , the car wants to come to a stop.
Can anyone help / point me in the right direction?

The reverse gear dosent have any syncros on it. So unless its lined up right you cannot physically put it into gear. What I do in my car is I will put it in netural and let off the brake and when its rolling either way put it into gear that way or give it a little gas in first to give it that same effet if I cant roll it. Sometimes it just lines up to not allow you to shift. Not a big deal if thats all it is.

Just throw it into first then into reverse. Mine does this when its cold. So does my bothers s2k and evo8. Guess its common with manual trannies.
