Default Comptech IceBox OR Comptech 4-2-1 headers ????......

well,
i want to do just ONE of the above. i love the way the R performs as she is, but i was just looking for a little extra ummph.

i have $150 to spend, and i know i can get an IceBox for about that price NEW. i already have a K&N E-2427 filter. it would give the car a little nice sound too.

OR...i can possibly get a used set of Comptech headers for another $150-200 extra....but that's an extra $150-200 i don't really want to spend if it doesn't make THAT much of a difference.
although, i know overall i'll get more power from the headers.

what should i do??

just get the IceBox and settle without having to pay more $$$ OR take the hassle of finding a good set of USED undented/unscratched Comptech headers from an honest person (hard to find these days) ((BTW, i would only consider these two items))

thanks in advance!!

According to my butt dyno, the icebox made a big difference in power

this is a curious issue...although I usually say "go intake first" I think you might give that header a look

Another option is to get rid of the factory air box and just run open filter and then get the header.
I personally would save and get a better header. JDM ITR header can be had for $200 or so.

I'd probably get the header. Sometimes it's kinda hard to find a used quality header for a decent price. $150 bux for a Comtpech 4-2-1 is not bad at all. And the Icebox will remain $150 bux for a while.

Losing the factory airbox has shown power loss more than once on dyno testing. THe stock airbox is well designed and an intake on an R is only 3-5 hp on an R.

I would personally either get the Icebox or a JDM 4-1 and cat. FYI the Icebox isn't going to make much increased noise (That is why I got mine). You want loud for louds sake get an AEM.

i think i'm leaning towards the IceBox.

the noise level is perfect for me.
the AEM is sick loud.

i can't get a header for $150...gotta pay at least $300 used i'm guessing.

removing stock air box and just goin with a K&N on stock intake hose netted me 2-6hp everywhere when I dyno'd it. Given that thats open hood but still not bad non the less.

i say save money for better upgrades.. stick intake arm is efficient, just match it with good filter as you already have and work your way from there.

btw.. out of all these minor bolt ons.. jdm 4-1 header served me the best - decent performance with oem look.

I've not seen gains like that with an AEM or Icebox. I removed my resonator on both of the Type Rs that I have owned, one lost 3 whp the other lost 6 whp. I left them with a K&N (RU2820) and the stock tube and they both netted zero.
