New pics of the Rally Car!(56k, stop being cheap and get some cable.)
These are a few pics from our rally we completed last week. We placed 1st in class and 3rd overall. Not a happy race for the Subaru guys. We had a rally yesterday and finished 2nd overall, with the last race of the season on Saturday coming up. Enjoy!
The back half.
Steve doing the math.
Cattleguards make the car shake.
High speed through the forest.
Dirt. It's the common theme.
Start of the drift.
Got puddle?
It all started out as this.
If you guys are wondering why we don't wear helmets or have a cage, it's because before you can go to Performance Rally (CARS, SCCA) you have to complete a year minimum of TSD rallies. You are technically breaking no laws, but most of the roads are used for stage rallies as well. The cage goes in this winter for our Performance Rally debut in 2004. Check out our site too.

Chris.
good luck with your project. Best to stay in the lowest class you can legally be in with the civic. awd and rwd really eat up fwd in rallys.
Oh you must be doing a time distance rally. Looks like fun, and I would love to do somthing like that. Whats you setup BTW?
We have a stock engine (rebuilt). SiR springs paired with Bilsteins, ES bushings and Spoon rear/ Jamex front tower bars. It's too damn stiff, but durable for not a lot of money. MOMO Acropolis seats, Competition wheel and Autometer to monitor the ongoings. The biggest improvement was the tires. Silverstone S-525 Gravel's from totalautosport.com for $85 CDN each. No more sliding off the road. As for the RWD cars owning the FWD's in rally, that is pretty far off. AWD will always be king (unless you have a computerized diff (FF kit cars were faster than the WRC cars at one point) but FWD is much better than RWD in low traction situations. I can steer with the throttle.
The whole car was built for about $3000 CDN including sponsorship, borrowed parts etc. Thanks to Malahat Autoparts, PIAA, Graphic FX and Metal Supermarkets for the support.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
The price per event is not too much for TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) events, but for Stage rallies it is often over $500 per event, not including transit, hotel, food, etc. We can still do stage rallies cheap, but we will need a cash sponsor.
As for the not needing helmets, it's because we are not breaking the speed limit.
If you are on course, and can keep 40mph through hairpins, you will never have to speed. But when you take a wrong turn, etc., you will need to make up that time! The instructions never tell you to speed, but you will in fact sometimes exceed the legal limit. If the police catch you AND report it to the event organizers, you will be disqualified. But they have to report it. At first we thought it would be boring and too easy, but it has been anything but. I've had to drive the ***** off that car to stay on time, and we've gotten better at it the more we've done it. Tons of fun and cheap to get into, as you can do it in your street car. (But don't bother if it's lowered.)
Speeddave: Soon, but I have to get the GSR some new pistons.

WOW that is really cool I have heard of people doing that and my friend used to have a 86 corolla the one that looks like the ae86 with a supercharger in it and he used to do rallies and such on the amator leval as well there was a 89 hatch that used to do it but it was an awd 4dr that is real cool man and a big thumbs up to the resto
The motor is the D16A6. The only mods you are allowed for production class (engine wise) are exhaust, panel filter and unlimited ECU tuning. It is a surprisingly durable car for a total restoration. The color is an EBP variant, but $175 for paint and body was too good to pass up. If you guys want to try it out, raise the car up with Si (99-00) springs and BILSTEINS. We're going stage (Production 2) next year, so the car has to me pretty stock motor wise.
yeah please inform me on how to get in to this, i'm 20 and took Racing school in the states 2 years ago. i have acess to a 89 civic that i am planning to use, please email me at p_sniper@hotmail.com
