Default LS VTEC or GSR in 95 Hatch...

Right now I have a OBD II GSR motor in my hatch, nad was thinking about switching to an LS block...Would that be a waste of time? Which block is better for 1/4 mile. Just a thought, thanks for the input.

Well if your GSR motor is trashed and ready to go out the door, I'd say go Ls/Vtec. But if you are just looking for more power, use the $$ to buy a turbo kit or something of the like. To have your GSR built with an LS block made into an Ls/Vtec, it's going to cost a bundle to do it the right way and you won't make that much more HP than your GSR. Turbo the GSR and save yourself $$ and down-time.

If I already had the LS block, and used my GSR head, why would it be expensive?

you will have to buy an external oil line a tap the ls block for a knock sensor. if you just bolt the head to the block it will not be very reliable and i doubt it will be much faster than what you already have. i would keep the GSR unless you plan on building the ls bottom end.

My thoughts exactly, very well said, IntegraLStuner

I would have to agree here. Unless the GSR motor that you currently have is worked, I would stick with it. Put some $ in some CTR/ITR cams, maybe a Skunk2 manifold, VAFC, nice header and exhaust, basically some good bolt-ons and you'll be happy. If you have the $ to go with a mild FI setup, a turbo or JRSC would really put a on your face. I know a lot of the turbo guys are gonna jump on me for that one, but let's not hijack this thread and turn it into a turbo vs. sc debate

i looked into doing the ls-vtec on my 98 ls teg and i realized after reading that it is much to expensive ( done right that is) for the numbers that you will get! what are your goals and i would go turbo... but if money isnt an issue ls-vtec is fun to drive! ... just my 2 cents

The main reason why I chose to turn my LS motor into Ls/Vtec was because it already had just over 100k miles, was losing compression, and I had the $$ to do it right. Otherwise I would have just done more bolt-ons or turbo'd (trying not to get off-topic)
