Overfilled Oil
this morning i checked my oil level before i drove the car at all (had been sitting for at least 12 hours) and the level was high! it wasn't extremely high, but about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch above the top hole. when i drove it out of my garage (like 30 seconds of driving) the level went down to about 1/4 an inch above the lower hole. i'm pretty sure the level should never go above the top hole, but i just want to make sure... should i still drain some or is it normal for the level to be high when the car has been sitting that long?

sweet.. so just leave it?
also, is it normal for the level to go down that fast (after driving it for 30 seconds). i would expect the oil to take longer to circulate through the engine.

ok, do you know how to check oil?
the engine must be off for about 5 minutes for the majority of the oil to settle at the bottom.
3 quarts of oil fill up to the bottom hole. between the bottom hole and the top hole, it takes about 1 quart.
if you are slightly over it wont matter, but a 1/4 inch? i dont think i would want that much EXTRA oil in my engine.

i know. i didn't say anything about the time for the oil to drain down into the pan, i asked about how quickly the oil was circulated out of the pan.
thanks.
