Default Throtle bodies

OK ok, i've got Type S cams sitting an waiting to be put in... I'm also interested in puttin a larger throttle body.

Has anyone done this to the prelude, how much, and what gains.

and finally was it worth the money$$$?

thanx...

Wider throttle, the better. If you add a 64mm t/b, very noticable gains. I think I might just port and polish my stock one right now. I am thinking a using my dremel tool, risky?

The overbored throttle body works very well. I had my throttle body overbored 4mm over stock by RC Engineering. They did a really professional job. I am having my intake manifold ported/polished as well to maximize performance benefits. I am running type s cams as well and the combination works very well. Go for it!

Yeah, it is a bad idea to port my t/b myself. I still can polish without worry. Lower turbulance.

i don't think u'll really get something out of polishing a TB

small turbulances caused by the surface in a TB doesn't really lessen the quantity of air that gets in..and from the TB point of view..that's what u want..

the type S TB is overbored 2mm moire than ours..
if u can get it ..

Polishing does help. By polishing, the air has less resistance traveling threw the TB. How much help though, probably not much.

If you get a bored throttle body, make sure to have your intake manifold match bored and ported. Otherwise your gains will be useless since all it's going to do is bottle neck back up when it hits the manifold.

I did it, and I couldn't tell you how much HP it gave me, since I had everything else done at the same time.

Todd is right, you gotta port match the IM.. Basically bore that out to 64mm as well.

Ok, i went to my local shop, they said to bore out my existing TB it'llb e AUD$250 roughly, (US$125) + labor takin it off and puttin it on. He said that it'l not worth purchasing a new TB as they'll cost into the thousand $ mark.
So i guess best bang for your buck would be to bore out your current TB.

U guess saying that P/P the IM is also good idea, how much u lookin at doing that? $$$ .

This is something i wish to do when my head comes off as i have a leaking head gasket and cyclinder 3 is gettin abit too much oil i suspect.

Forgive the caps, but WHAT IS THE FINAL WORD ON TYPE-S CAMS IN AN OTHERWISE STOCK USDM HEAD? Is it safe or does it cause abnormal wear on the rockers?

acutally they are fine in a non type S engine. only think is that you'l need to purchase a piggy back computer to recognize the new cams.

My friend has been running TS cams in his 99 prelude for roughly 6 months now, and his had no problems what so ever. and he does push the car daily.

I disagree, it has been proven that they damage the rocker arms of the USDM motors.. I wouldn't do it.. If your gonna get the cams, do it right and get the whole valvetrain as well...

A new throttle body does not cost thousands of $$$.. Someone is just feeding you bullshit so they can charge you to bore it out.. they cost about 250$ I believe JG sells some..

notice the proper placement of "AUD", which means "Australian dollars"... approximately AUD$2 to US$1

Notice that using simple math that $250.00 USD times 2 equals $500.00 AUD. Not even 1 thousand let lone "thousands".

Billy was mentioning that the ITR throttle body will fit and is a good replacement without boring out your current tb.

Do not use your dremel to cut out your throttle body. It's just not accurate enough. Also the throttle plate needs to be replaced with a larger one and perfectly fit by the machine shop when doing it or you'll get problems like a crappy idle or a sticky throttle.

I think he meant buying a completely new TB from honda to have bored would cost a lot of money. I don't think he wanted any downtime from having to ship his TB off to get it bored, but I could be wrong.

I think that the ITR TB would probably be the best solution if you did not want to send your TB off to get it bored. That's probably what I'll end up doing someday.
