I am about to put a used clutch in a crx and have a couple qusetions. The clutch has low miles and I know it is in good shape but when the clutch is not engaged it make a faint grinding noize. When you push the clutch in it goes away. Could this be pilot bearing or throughout bearing? I really do not want to buy a new clutch beacuse I am only putting the car together to drive for a couple months and sell(88hf w/ dohc zc/si tranny). Any advice will help.

 

My guess is it needs a new pilot bearing but that is only a guess.

 

Sounds like your input shaft bearing. I think your a little confused, or maybe you worded it wrong, but when you press on the pedal the clutch is not engaged. When the clutch is engaged the pilot bearings inner and out race are moving together at the same speed. So when the clutch is not engaged the inner race of the pilot bearing is not spinning but the out is. So when you step on the clutch the pilot bearing would make a noise, or the throw out bearing. But you said it made noise all the time but it goes away when you step on the clutch pedal, which means the input bearings not moving at all, but when the clutch is engaged the input bearings inner race is moving and the outer is not. Its pretty late over here so that might not of made the best of sense.
