Long time reader, first post. Been reading a lot (maybe too much) of HT. Finally registered.

I know there have been many posts about GM Syncromesh w/ FM but I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I used to have the infamous third gear grind and used to grind bad when shifting into reverse from standstill. I swapped the Honda MTF with GM SM w/ FM and let me tell you, that stuff is magic. No more grinding anywhere and the car feels somewhat smoother.

Wasn't too hard for me to find, I called up one place and was able to locate 26 bottles at one location. When the guy broughth it out to me, there was at least a millimeter of dust on it. Part number is 12377916 as it stated on my bottle, but does not list as Syncromesh w/ friction modifier, but just GM MTF. I believe it's an old packaging and bottling due to the dust, but the part number matches and did wonders for my car .

yes sir..u got the right stiff..its just an old bottle...i bought the same thing and it had crazy dust on it..the guy said that it was old packaging...nothin to worry about..but GM stuff is great...took care of my 5th gear grind in a day..just to let u know this GM fluid will just mask the problem of the bad synchros if they r in fact damaged or worn

 

Cool. Nice to know I got the right stuff, gives me peace of mind. The guy was surprised I was getting such expensive MTF. I guess they don't use much of this stuff?

Is it a bad thing that it masks problems with synchros? I suspect problems with my synchros cause it is tough for me to put it into first.
