Default New install and test drive: JDM DC header, SMSP cat, grounding system

Well the rain finally let up and it's a beautiful day outside. So i take the R out of the garage and am on my way. To make a long story short midrange torque was noticably improved. I still havent hit VTEC yet but im loving the mid range torque increase. My exhaust really didnt change sound, maybe got a little deeper. When i cranked up the car this morning though a lot of whitish (w/ a hint of blue) smoke came out. I figured it just needed to break in and warm up. When I got to work I had my manager rev up the car a bit and hardly any came out (none at idle). NO MORE BLACK RESIDUE!!! this is a big plus. I have some new exhaust rattles and tiggy noises but they arent bad. I popped the hood and to my surpise the stainless steel header is PURPLE...now i was expecting so discoloration but DAMN! it was only discolored on the primaries coming straight out of the head. weird? I figure ill check the color again when the car cools down. The rest of the header looked normal. After i get off work im really going to see what she can do. The red grounding wires are a really nice touch and i think they leaned the car out a bit (aiding in an overall better ignition function). All in all, blood and sweat and bitching well worth the install...and i still havent ventured into VTEC yet. i cant wait.

The smoke you are referring to is most likely the oil/grit/grime from you hands, burning off the header...it should be fine.

That is also a big reason for the discoloration.

You can use a product called "Blue Away" available at golf shops etc to get rid of the blue, but it will just come back.

Why did you not hit VTEC? Esp if you just got new mods?

about as much as your grounding kit.....so according to your A$$ dyno, i estimate 30hp before b33-tek.

Prove it. Butt Dyno's and body g-sensors are VERY INACCURATE and usually wrong.

Come again?
What I meant to say was: WHAT????

I can't believe this. Leaned your car out by grounding better. LOL. You have an A/F gauge in your nose?

Ignorance is bliss.

Chris - who is beginning to loathe this site for its total lack of sense, not to mention reasonable or sensible reviews.

sorry...i dont have dyno in my garage...when i said noticable I meant just that, noticable

ONCE AGAIN, sorry i dont live in VTEC, i like going more than 160 miles on a tank of gas.

black smoke (indicating rich fuel) isnt present anymore...are you confused on how grounding wires work and how they actually aid the ignition system? No, your just a skeptical ***...

dude...you're having a bad day or forgot to take your prozac...or are you just naturally a dick?

EDIT: Im just going to safely say you're always an ***?

and I"m saying that you don't really know... none of us do. It's really hard to tell, saying you have midrange tq but haven't gone into vtec... well, vtec starts in the midrange, no?

I get 250-300 per tank of gas. I get into vtec. what's your point in saying that anyways?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">black smoke (indicating rich fuel) isnt present anymore...are you confused on how grounding wires work and how they actually aid the ignition system? No, i'm not a skeptical ***.

I don't rely on bullshit. You don't know and you can't adjust your AF ratio with grounding wires.

Your comparisons are so unscientific and illogical it hurts my head.

Ha, you know what I love about this site?

1. very few people like to talk in objectives - all of it is subjective 'i thinks'. No measurements, no science....
2. people resort to cheap insults when they don't like when someone calls them out for having bad reasoning. Suddenly I need to get laid, dont have a life, am psycho, an *******, etc. Funny, you don't know me, and I am sure that my life is perfectly fine and I'm a reasonable well adjusted 27 year old.... with a great deal of good friends.... and a brain.
3. its en vouge to call people 'haters' for disagreeing, it is also very cool to make assumptions when you put three modifications on at once. You put on a new cat - what says you hadn't burnt the other one to a crisp a now the SMSP cat is doing its job... therefore no black smoke? It doens't PROVE that you are running leaner, it says nothing, actually.

BTW - I have not said one word about your character outside of what you wrote in your post. I'm not the ad hominem/straw man/red herring type. I count myself as objective and don't point my arguments at people's characters.

Maybe you should do that same?

Edit: I have black **** all over my bumper. My cat is totally burnt and dead. If I got a new one (and I've had this happen before), I'd have no more black stuff coming out the back, at least in much smaller quantities.

Probably does. But the JDM DC header will give you more top end than midrange. Although it should feel better and look better on the street and on the dyno considering it is a bigger header.
