Default Close miss at Summit

Finally got the clip of my close encounter with Tony Zelones in T8 uploaded. Still makes me flinch. Got to learn to make better starts, so I'm not behind so many wild and crazy folks on the first lap. At least I got a free beer out of Tony later.

This is a 7+mb mpeg, so probably best to save down and run.

Pretty good reaction time for an old guy!

Like you, I think I'd have expected another half turn out of that car before it stopped.

Yeah, it rolled back.

What happened to cause his spin? I didn't see any contact and the track surface looked dry.

Is this a situation where ideally the spinner should have put on the brakes to keep from rolling across the track?

Yes. Although not contact resulted, if the driver had braked, Jerry may have been able to take a more controlled approach to his off-track adventure. By the sound of it, they already discussed this (since they shared a few frosty beverages).

Yeah I worded that on purpose so it wouldnt sound like I was pointing out a screw up or anything. Just wanted to know for my own education as well as others if the whole "2 feet in" thing is HPDE-only or good practice in racing too.

Same thing happened to me with the 240-SX that spun in turn three. He didn't go both feet in, and went backwards across the track straight at me. It's something that we all should no better than to do....

Close call, I was along the fence there there and seeing that unfold in front of you live, deff made you see how much closer that was then even the video does justice.

Thanks for posting that video Jerry.

Got any from Sunday's race, with your "excursion" in Turn 1? I think a Spec RX7 was also involved.

Since I didn't run Sunday's race, Beno and I watched from Turn 1. He got a lot of still shots, but not of your off...

That was from the first lap of Sunday's race.

Still a pending protest against me on the T1 incident, so in fairness to the process I'm not commenting (or showing video) until that's resolved.
