Default strength of GSR rods

will GSR rods hold over 200 whp with revs upto 9000 rpm? i building my motor and wondering if its necessary to change the rods w/ some balanced type-r rods or probe. regardless, im changing to ARP bolts and ACL bearings. should that be enough or should i just go the upgraded rods?

they can handle it, but prolly would be one of the weaker spots in the mix of things

as long as everything is balanced and blueprinted, and you upgrade to arp rod bolts. you should be good to go

they can handle the power but after market ones would be alot stronger and you wouldnt have to think about it again

gsr/itr rods are factory shot-peened. and, for the cost of re-shot-peening them and getting ARP rod bolts (a good upgrade while everything's apart), you might as well buy my new B18C Eagle Rods for $290 shipped and get a better rod.

$150 is how much I paid to shotpeen my rods.
$70 to resize ( must be done when shotpeening or ARP rod bolts are used)
Still cheaper than Aftermarket rods, not as strong but will last longer - (they don't stretch)

ARP rod bots 9mm are 50 bucks not 20.
Here is the proof:

so $150 to shotpeen
+$ 70 to resize rods with ARP bolts torqued to spec
+$ 50 for ARP rod bolts
__________
$270 - so you save a whopping $20 to use weaker components, and have to have them properly machined, which requires at least one trip to the shop. and, you could sell your stock rods to cover some of the cost of better ones.

all rods stretch. actually, with the weight at each end and between being =, with the same pistons on each at the same rpm (same stroke, etc.), an H-beam rod (like Eagle) will typically stretch less than an I beam rod (like stock), by design. think about that when you check your piston-to-valve clearances; they won't be the same at 8000 rpm as they are at 0 rpm.
