Default Burning oil.... :(

My B18 is burning a lot of oil (1 quart every 100 miles). The problem is the engine was just recently rebuilt, is this a shotty rebuild job or is there something else I can do?

Thanks,
Dustin

it is common for a rebuilt motor to burn oil the first few hundred miles of its life. Until the piston rings fully seat, it will burn oil. You are breaking the motor in right? and rougly about 1000 miles. If after 1000 miles and still burning oil.. prob time for another rebuild.

I'd go with migs suggestion. and if it's still burning oil, go do a cylinder leakdown test any reputable shop should be able to do it. a properly rebuilt motor should not have more than 10% leakdown in each cylinder.

A good engine rebuilt should not smoke that severely after a rebuild. You need to pull the cylinder head and make sure your valve stem seals aren't leaking. Once you pull the cylinder head, check out your combustion chambers ...you'll see if you're burning severe amounts of oil. You also should do a compression test to see if you have similiar numbers all across the board.

If the valve guides and/or valve stem seals aren't leaking, then you have a ring problem. You can have good compression and still have faulty rings. You can have good compression rings, but bad oil-rings ...check it out quickly. Good luck!
