5w30 vs 10w30
My honda recomends 5w30. i have 110k miles and have been using 10w30 castrol gtx since 80K. Will my 4-cyl. run better with 5w30 or just stay with 10w30 since i have high mileage? What is your opinion of slick 50?
DON"T USE SLICK 50
LUCAS oil Stabalizer is a better Option. 5w30 is great wouldn't worry about it.
You could go with Synthetic But really no need for.
Go with Lucas 75-25 mix (75%5w30 and 25%Lucas) You will get better gas Milage

i live by castrol gtx 10w-30 nothing else 11 sec hatches anything unless its pure track car....no syn either u can never go back from syn to normal.
either oil will be fine for your car, if you live in a warm area where you never see freezing temps, then 10w30 is fine, but if you live in a pretty cold area I would switch to 5w30 because the 10w30 freezes up when it gets really cold. And leave that slick 50 **** alone, its junk. That lucas stuff, I haven't really noticed any benifits of it other than thicken up your oil a bit, hence a stabilizer.
And you can switch back and forth from synthetic as much as you please, oil is oil. They are all made to the same properties, just that synthetic can withstand alot more extreme conditions before breakign down.

I don't see why you can't switch from Syn to normal why not? I mean when you first buy your car it has normal oil in it and when you do a rebuild they tell you to use normal and then syn blend and then full syn if that is what you want to use. And if you want you can switch back to normal oil its not goign to hurt anything.

there are many people who use syn and then switch back cause they want to save money and have no problems.
imo, 5w-30 is fine for the F22. if live where it's 100+ degrees out then i would use 10w-30.

and many honda techs still think its impossible to drop an h22a into an accord, my point being, most are uneducated grease monkeys.
And if you pour a qt through, before putting oil in, all the oil is doing is going straight down from the oil passages from the head down to the oil pan, and out the drain bolt, so yeah, your just wasting money.

Exactly
If you want to clean the engine (which I assume is the reason for dumping perfectly good oil into the drain pan) Use and Engine FLush. You add this BEFORE changing the oil and you run the car for a few minutes and then Drain Right away. I have used this and the Oil is Very dirty after this, but looking into the crank case I notice the varnish is significantly lessened.
You can change from Synth to Normal there is NO PRoblem there. I have done it Many times. the Point that some are trying to make is that you cannot mix Synthetic with normal oil. Like if you are low on oil and you want to add a quart if you are running normal dino Oil you can't take a quart of Synth and add it to the crank case.
You can also do a test pour a 1/2 quart of normal oil into a bowl and then add a 1/2 quart of Synth to it.
I live in Mid Atlantic region and the weather here is pretty crazy from one extreme to the other and I use 5w30 all year around and NO PROBLEM. Never heard of Oil Freezing... Problem is and this stems from older cars mostly...
Using a thin oil in the summer time sometimes leads to quicker thermal breakdown (Heat from the engine + temp outside). You can get away with it in the Colder months, but with todals cars and aluminum blocks this is not a problem. A thinner Oil gives you better Fuel Economy due to less drag on the internals.

for the record the honda technicians i know have built ls/vtec engines in EGs so they know whats up and they said don't go form syn to normal just what i heard i dunno
In response too your question, or questions, you may want too check out the web site (bobistheoilguy). Read what it says about Lucas products, some good, some not. Stay with a thinner oil in the colder weather, unless you are using oil. The warmer the weather, the more you might want too consider a heavier weight oil.
Be carefull on some engine flush products, read the directions.Slick50 i believe was told by uncle sam too cease making false claims about its product.

your average honda tech, is just a really good honda parts replacer. the ones you know may know how to build engines, but what qualifies them to know oil?? it's probably just what they feel is the proper thing to do. in reality, it says on the back of mobil 1, compatible with all oils. if switching back was problem i'm sure it would be posted on mobil 1s FAQ on their website.

They are probably telling you not to cause the synthetic is better oil performance wise.
That is probably the only reason.
When I find some good **** to use I will recomend it because it is good ****, even when the other **** will do the job I will still call the other **** crap and not to use it.

Reason people say that is probably cause someone else said it and they are just repeating what they heard. 135k miles on the engine and I have used both. When $$$ was tight I switched back to regular oil and when I had the Extra $$$ I went for the Synth.
No sign og damage to the engine and NO ONE has YET given a valid reason WHY this is not recommended or WHY you CAN'T do it.
Just because the Honda Technician said so is not a good reason to me.
