Default Problem with speedo in 92 hatch

i swapped in a SI motor wired v-tec *properly* and now my speedo decides when it wants to work i notice it kind of has a trend to work when it is damp out or when it is colder out *to me that sounds like a broke wire somewere* but i checked the grounds and re did them and cleaned the area were they were grounded but now i noticed that my trip and odometer doesnt work all the time either.. if someone could help it would be GREAT! thankz

I had a problem like this and I solved it by replacing the speedo part of the cluster. It would work intermitently and kinda crap out at times.

Don't know what else to tell you.

I would guess this over a defective speedometer. These are pretty common problems with our cars. Make sure that it is plugged in good!

WRONG.

It's the sodering of the speedometer chip. Take the speedo apart and re-soder the sodering on the chip and it should stop doing it. There was a thread a while ago on this.

My speedometer does this too. Usually when the car has warmed up and has run for like 15 minutes it will stop doing it. I'm replacing my cluster with a GSR cluster once I get the time to do it, so that's why I have not re-sodered the speedo chip myself.

If it was your VSS your VTEC would not work, and your speedo would not go on and off.

WRONG. I had a failing VSS before and it was an INTERMITTENT FAILURE. Sometimes my speedo would work and other times it would not.

Haha.. Well.. You caught me on a good day. Not to mention I know you're right about that, so what's the point of arguing? Thanx for the though.. and here's a few for you.

But this happened after his swap.

The cluster never changed.

The motor did..

The trip and the odo dying are just a symptom..

Weird coinky dink don't you think?

a buddy of mine had a bad VSS and his vtec still worked but he did also have a Vafc if that makes a differance i think it might though.

I would check the VSS first the way that he messed his up and i saw him do this he took the coolant line off of the mani. and it spilled on the VSS and proceeded to corrode because he didn't wipe it off so i would check that first
