New car purchase
I am not a 'car person' in anyway. I'm interested in learning more about them as I am looking to purchase a new honda civic within the week. Is the 03/04 civic coupe a reliabe car?
umm...sir...im on here to get information about a car i am interested in purchasing. You folks on here seem to know a hell of a lot about hondas, and I commend you on your knowledge by the way, but I just thought that before I went ahead and used my hard earned cash that i've earned while slaving day in and day out over a extremely hot mickey d's fryer (that burned my eyebrow off by the way, tmi, sorry) and before I then invested it all in a spectacular piece of metal as a honda you so praise, I thought that i would first use this great medium to ask questions and learn more from a great team of individuals. You guys are like so great! But please forgive me. I'll leave if you want me to. ok, bye.:-(
(sounding like a straight herb)
lu!... and im still tryin here.

The 03/04 Civic Coupe? Stay far away from that car. The Accord is a much better vehicle, buy an Accord (5 or 6 speed transmission, of course).
The problem with Civics is that if you buy one, you will have Accord envy and will ask yourself everytime you see an Accord "why didn't I buy one of those?".
Then again, I admittedly don't know anything about the modern Civics, though I do have an Accord (you are posting in an Accord forum, afterall).

the civic is a good, reliable car. you should be able to drive it around for years with only minimal problems, if any at all. the car's engine (ex trim level) is peppy at best, but then again, if you're "not a car person in any way" and you're looking at the civic, then you're probably not looking for the fastest car you can find.
however, if it's within your budget or a possibility, i would highly recommend buying the accord. the accord is more comfortable, has more room, and has a smoother ride. of course, the accord has more power.... in my opinion, the accord is definitely worth the extra money.
in any case, both cars are very reliable and both should prove to be pretty much worry-free.

Go w/ the Accord if you can afford it. Def. a better car. My step mom has a Civic and that thing is so ******* small. If you have a family or plan to have one, the Accord will be the better car for you. More room and easier to get in and out of.

if you can't afford an EX Accord, then an EX civic isn't a bad choice. i think i would look into a base RSX though since at $17K the ex civic is a ripoff when you look at its competition.

a base model accord will retain it's value better than a high-end civic, cost about the same and have more "status" whatever that means. I've driven my car almost 40k miles and it's depreciated $700.
Actually, new cars just suck. If your going to drop 15k, buy a 95-97 Mercedes C280 V6 for the same price and get a well maintained cherry one-owner car w/ <80k miles. It's a definate looker aka "bitch car". Actually, another option for 15k is a 95-97 BMW m3 or a 98+ prelude....
15k on a CIVIC?!?!?!
.....the list goes on and on..
Once you pass 13k for a used car, almost anything is possible. Just buy the right one.

What are you getting for that 12.5k? Extended 7yr/100k factory warranty?
You can usually find the newest 03'/04' accord base model (but that comes with A/C, ABS) for around 14.5k. Brand new:
http://www.edmunds.com (xlnt guide for making a new/used purchase)
http://www.carsdirect.com (use as a price comp) - I usually deduct 10% off whatever price this system gives me as the price I can negotiate at the dealer
http://www.kbb.com (has the actual vehicle codes so you can talk apple to apples)
http://www.cars.com (good used car comparision site)
Don't get me wrong...new cars are good. Just pick the right one...espeically one that will fit you needs in a few years. The civic might not.

you may want to consider getting a used car and if its honda certified you could get a warranty thats better than a new car...
for the price of a brand new base model civic you could get a nicer used accord w/leather, power everything, etc....
as far as reliability i have a 94 accord with 194,xxx miles and have only changed brakes, timing belt, tires, and fluids
