No 5th gear or reverse! Tranny F#$! up.
My tranny will no longer go into 5th gear or reverse. I have tried everything. It is really random too. I was in a parking lot and it just wouldnt go into reverse.
All of the other gears are fine. My car only has 20k miles on it.
Any ideas?
And yes I have tried with all my might to put it in. And no it is not covered under warrany because they will freak when they pop my hood.
The sad part is I shift pretty slow. I honestly have not abused it.

Dam same here turbo integra. Ive had so much **** with my tranny. Now i get all the gears but no reverse. I mean i can move the shifter to reverse but my reverse lights wont even come on. my car just grinds in reverse and rolls back.
>>>
If worse comes to worse, remove your turbo, it'll be cheaper than paying for a new tranny, especially an ITR tranny
>>>
Taking the turbo out now ain't gonna help that tranny.
I have to say that with all the problems that N/A or even just stock cars are having with transmissions, I am not at all suprised that the extra wear and tear from all that horsepower would tear up the tranny quite nicely.
****, you want to put 125% horsepower through a tranny that fails at normal 100%, don't be suprised when it breaks.
As a side note, I feel for ya, and I am very disappointed that Honda failed to put a bulletproof tranny on a car (GSR or ITR) that IS going to get some abuse, or at least a good amount of "spirited" driving.
See my rant below about Honda trannys: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=66899
First thing I would do is change the tranny fluid - get a magnet, dip it in the drained fluid and see if/how much metal is attracted by the magnet (obviously any aluminum chips are going to just sit at the bottom of the drain pan - take a look there too).
I would also investigate the clutch, master and slave cylinders.
Good luck amigo !

hmm.... i think i've heard this too nighthawk
5th gear and Reverse use the same shift fork, therefore a problem like yours points to a bent 5th/R shift fork or something bent/broken in the shift linkage (inside the transmission).
If you're cruising in 4th and go for 5th, what happens? Does it grind and not go into gear or can you just not push it in that direction? A lot of people have problems with reverse, but yours might be a different. Try the usual stuff like putting it into 2nd, then over into reverse to see if that helps.
Pushing with all your might to force it into gear is only making the problem worse.
Also, I don't know if I'd agree that the ITR tranny was "only made for 140hp". The reason I say this is because people aren't having problems related to putting down too much horsepower. Mangled shift forks and sliders, etc, don't have much to do with how much power you make, but rather how you shift. If people were shredding the teeth of gears or something, that you could blame on too much power, but that's not the case.
Also note that the ITR/GSR share a case and some internals that are a little larger than their LS/B16 counterparts. Don't know if they're stronger, but there are differences.

my 5th and reverse would grind found out that it was the synchros for those gears dealership replaced them and rebuilt my sunroof. the strange thing is that my car has about the same miles on it
Hey I had the same problem. Couldn't go into reverse for about a month and then all of the sudden my girl drove my car and it worked fine. I think I might have misaligned the fork or bent it a little. I am still looking for a tranny at a good price. Since reverse came back I haven;t had any problems with it since then. All I got to say is watch out where you park.
hell yeah. i cant go into reverse now. I drove it around my hood..lol. today and it shifted and everything but there is this annoying sound. AAmco is comming to get it tomorrow.
i have a 97 GS-R with 105,000 miles and i have NEVER had a problem with the trans except for replacing the clutch at 75,000 miles! you guys just cant shift!
