Default steering lock

hey guys, my friend and i worked together on his del sol and got that bizzotch started! im not going to say how, but to my amazement, i only used a phillips screwdriver. thats it. but now that it is started, the steering wheel is locked up still. i looked and i saw that it was clamped with two metal pieces. on my 88 civic i can take it apart simply with taking out 2 bolts. this does not have any bolts. i would just use a hacksaw, but he doesnt want it to be permanently messed up. how can i get that pin to not stick itself into the steering pipe thing? it looks pretty tough. could i just put a honda key in there that will fit, and will it unlock? ok thanks guys

btw: dont accuse me of being a theif, im not, u dont even know who i am. plz keep negative comments to yourself. If u decide maybe u dont want the whole world to know how to unlock this, then please pm me and i will keep your name confidential. ok thank you

I think you are going to need a key man. The only way I have ever seen to unlock the wheel is to do it while you are tuning the key. Good luck though.

call a locksmith and have a key made. i had to do that with my old S10 because when it was really cold out my key broke off in the door(that sucked) it only cost me $40 to have him come out and make the key. good luck

did you break the ignition to turn it on? if so, using the screw driver is like having the key.

well i dont wanna go into detail really, but i did the thing where i popped a certain piece of the ignition off and there was a slot, i put a screwdriver into that slot and voila it started right up. i dont have a key, dont have a title, and all the VIN# are gone. this was a stolen vehicle. i tried to snap the lock by jerking the wheel but u have to be the incredible hulk to do that, its very tough. now we are to the point where we dont care about the lock, b/c i found a 94 civic coupe in the boneyard with a good ignition and steering lock. but i cant even budge this one. hacksaw wont work b.c then i would have to cut through some of the wires to get to the lock. any suggestions? this is really frustrating that this is the only thing holding us back so far.

haha serously, you can break it. just get two guys one on each side and one grab the top and one grab the bottom of the wheel and pull hard as f*ck.

or if you have acess to those two rivet looking things holding the lock on, get a dremmel and put a slot in each of them and uncrew them.

just use a dremel and cut the two bolt tabs that look like a rivit... and then go to home depot and get replace ment bolts. they wont be the same but will work..

and if you want to keep this same ignition . take out any of the lock cylinders for the doors or the trunk and you will see 4 sets of numbers (ex. c356) and maybe a letter,, that is your key code , then go to the dealership and ask for a key to be made with this code.. and your done...

or you could spend 100 bucks and get a new ignition, ??????

hope that helps... and make sure you dont damage the white plastic piece at the end of the ignition when you screw back together, or you'll be buying a new ignition..

Even though it's too late now, just for future refence, If you would have taken the paperwork down to honda, along with the vin, they would have made you a key for 6 bucks! They have all the key grinds on file! My del sol was a stolen recovery from ca, i live in ore. I didn't even have the title for the car!!!

exactly.. like i said dude, if you want a working key do what i told above and just take that number to the dealer to get yourself the key.. no need for a vin or any other id crap. and any key place can do it also, but they may charge more.....
