B18C1 vs B18C5
Okay, i'm new to all-motor but i have been searching around and reading on these two motors along with the h22.
i eliminated h22 as a choice due to the poor gearing.
now, there are two arguments. many say with the money you save by buying a C1, you can spend the rest to make it faster than the C5.
this is what i dont understand, you save AROUND $1000 buying the C1. calculating an estimated 15% drivetrain loss:
type r = 165.75whp
gsr = 144.5 whp
what parts can you buy for roughly $1000 to gain almost 21 whp???
IMO, the C5 looks like the motor too get, even if it is that much more expensive, plus better tranny w/lsd.
ive read from the C1 owners that the gsr motor is "better bang for the buck"
but i do not see it. please inform me.

you are either getting a really good deal on a C5 swap or you are getting RAPED on a C1 swap
look around for a while and you can find a deal. i paid 1900 for a complete b18c1 swap about a year ago.
if i could do it over again i think i would have built a poor mans type r with a type r tranny. or just bought a c1 longblock and got a type r tranny. gsr gearing is too long for all motor.

if the tranny is included in the deal, just get the b18c5 change over.
lsd, better gearing, lighter fly (if yer getting it w/ the deal)
block has better rods, more stable crankshaft at higher rpms, higher comp pistons.
head has decent valvetrain, good cams, slight port/polish job.
