Where to put battery
Just wondering what everone else thinks. I need a new battery, and I wanted to relocate mine to my trunk for the longest time. Now thats it's time to do it I'm thinking all the weight savings from a lightweight battery is lost back to the wiring needed to relocate it. Does taking 25 lbs from the front and putting 12 lbs in the back really help balance the car, or should i just put the light battery where it's always been anyway? I'm not really in need of space under the hood or anything.
IMO screw the light weight battery! if a stock battery weighs 25lbs and you put that in the trunk, you have accomplished a weight transfer of 50lbs. but if your worried about weight start here...
carbon fiber hood saves 20lbs
remove ac saves 25lbs
then get your car corner weighted and see where you actually need the extra weight of the battery to keep your car the most balanced. ie 50/50 weight distribution

So is balancing the weight more beneficial than just removing the weight completely? Also, as far as relocating a wet cell, isn't there like some sorta fumes that it gives off that can make you go prematurely bald or something?

yes and no. when I said screw the lightweight battery I meant don't buy it because of the price tag. especially when it's a good way to move some weight to the back of the car. now I have know idea what your hook-up is, or what battery you were going to buy, I was really just basing that on the SPOON battery which goes for about $300. If you were to spend $300 on a carbon fiber hood and locate a stock battery in the trunk, IMO you would be better off. By doing it that way you save about 50lbs off the front, put 50lbs in the rear for a total of a 100lbs weight transfer
just putting a light weight battery in your trunk is a weight transfer of only 24lbs
just my opinion tho

This is a pretty nice kit from summit racing http://store.summitracing.com/...1200A
They sell it at a decent price too.

I just have a Odessy battery under my hood. Much smaller than the stock battery and have used it for 18k miles with no problems. Its the metal jacket one with 625 cranking amps, if I remember right.

im also wondering about the fumes. i heard that the battery has to have some sort of "vented" space. i'm also scared of it tipping, and spilling. i was going to get one of the optima batteries, but they are very heavy. i think im going to do the relocation also, but i need to know if its ok with the oem battery, and where exactly to put it in the trunk.
I read up a little more, you can get a marine battery case for around $15. They supposedly protect from the fumes. That kit on summit came with such a case as well as everything else you need (didn't see a master power switch in that kit which is required for SCCA racing, but you can throw one of those on easily enough).

yes you need to vent it. and it won't tip as long as you do it right. get the summit kit or sum'n similier and bolt it to the trunk floor. the kit will come with the vent and all the hardware.

i have the summit battery box and a hawker genesis G16ep battery. The battery works perfectly fine, starting the car right up no problem and has a surprisingly long life (like leaving the lights or radio on with the car off). There are many places online where you can get it from, just search. I ordered mine from portable power systems for only like 70bucks. great buy since i needed a new battery anyway, and this one is only 13.5 lbs. It is basically the same exact battery as the one pictured on jdm ****. The one they have seems to be the G13EP, which weighs a little less. They look exactly the same and have the same dimensions though. Less weight means less "life."

for the sake of the original thread topic...i have mine located on the passenger rearmost corner of my trunk, next to my NX bottle. The battery box is much bigger than the battery, so i built a mount for it to keep it secure in the box.

Optima now makes a stock replacement battery for civics. not sure of the weight. But Ac saves 25 lbs and PS saves u 19 lbs. Just another note. Removing PS gives a b16 4 whp and 2 ft lb of torqe.
